This is a long and rigorous journey, so get your tea and your crumpets and take a seat.
I recently just got some subs and a small 4 channel amplifier in addition to the 2 channel amplifier I already had. The 2 channel was previously powering my two front speakers, but since I got the subs I switched it over to them and was planning on using this new 4 channel for my speakers. When I originally bought the amp I thought it was just plug and play like the alpine power pack. Basically with the alpine your wiring harness plugs into it, and then you plug it's harness into the back of your head unit. Well it turned out to be a little bit different, but I thought what the hell, I'm going to try and hook it to my existing harness and see what happens. So I spliced everything into what was already going into my head unit. Well the important stuff anyway. Power, accessory, and ground. Here's where everything gets shit on. I turn my accessory on and the cd player immediately goes into protect mode. Realizing I had just made a dumb ass move I unplugged the amp and put everything back to the way it was before. Of course the cd player was still stuck in protect mode.
Not knowing what to do, and having to go to work, I just ended up driving around with it stuck in protect mode. Then my speedometer stopped working. Shortly after that I realized that my cd player wasn't working at all. It wasn't flashing protect and it was completely off. I'm not sure if the speedometer going out is relevant because I wasn't paying attention. They might have gone off at different times, which is completely possible because every other gauge in my cluster is broken too.
But anyway, I've been messing with it for the last three days and I have no idea what the problem is. All the wiring is as it should be, or as it was before anyway. I've checked all the fuses and they're all good. I thought I had found the problem when I saw that the same fuse that goes to the speedometer also goes to the radio power, but I replaced it and it didn't fix anything. I also went and bought a new head unit thinking that maybe I just blew mine up when I tried plugging that amp in, but that didn't work either. Both cd players do the same thing. They're getting power because they'll cycle if you hit the eject button, but neither will turn on.
So that's what I'm dealin with. Any ideas would be appreciated.
