Forgive me, for I am a total stereo newbie, but...

I'm pretty sure I don't have a premium stereo system since I don't have an amp in my car. It's a 90 325i. The OP replaced the radio, though, so I'm not 100% sure. I do have the side-view mirror tweeter pods and the angular rear speakers if that's any indication. I put in a new CD player when I got the car and the stock speakers recently bit the dust so I'm just taking out the rears and replacing the fronts.

Question is, what do I need to do with the wiring from the stock speakers? I've replaced speakers before and there were only the + and - wires. Now I've got more wires and a little resistor/capacitor thing. I have a soldering iron or crimper, common sense, and some new component speakers ready to go if anyone can guide me on how to wire this.

Have you read the "Amp Bypass" thread or the "Killer $500 Stereo" thread?

Read both before you do anything. Yes, all 9 bazillion pages.

Haha, I did read all 9 bazillion pages of the "Killer $500 Stereo" thread, but not the "Amp Bypass" thread. If the answer is in one of the two, and I don't see it in the Amp Bypass thread, I'll check the Killer $500 Stereo thread again. So long as you're sure my answer is in one of them and easy enough for a total newbie to figure out, I'll make sure I find it. I've spent a good bit of time searching already, and I don't mean to be "that guy" who doesn't search, but I'd rather not spend a week searching this answer out, and I promise did search a decent amount before posting again, but please answer my question if I can't figure it out myself. I'm on my way to find the amp bypass thread now. Thanks for the tip. I'll post back whether I figure it out or not.

Try perusing the electrical wiring diagrams too. I guarantee you its simpler than you're making it. I know I tend to overthink things and make it harder than it needs to be.

I think what you are seeing is the crossover for the OEM speakers if you are talking about the resistor/capacitor located on the back of the front 5 1/4" speaker. It serves to divide the signal from the head unit to the two speakers (so the tweeter doesn't try to play bass notes and the woofer isn't trying to play the high frequencies).
The new speakers probably came with their own crossovers so you won't need the OEM ones any more - they are generally speaker specific. That is, they don't work well with different speakers anyway.
You should be able to just connect the speaker wires from your new head unit to the crossover for the new speaker then from the crossover to each speaker per the speaker instructions.
