Need some quick advice concerning amps

I was following Luke's advice and getting the Jensen POWER5500 5-Channel Amplifier and the company didn't have on in stock, but they have offered to send me the JL Audio M6450 (refurbished) for the same cost and honor the 1 - year warranty...

Now, the JL Audio amp new is twice the cost of the Jensen, but is it, for this amplication a better amp or should I pass?

It is a 6 channel, so there would be some changes: first, it is only 45 WPC X2 @4ohms or 1X 150W@4 ohms on bass...my recommended range is 200 to 500, so 350ish is more like it.

The other thing is you would need a SVC 4 ohm woofer, but if you have not bought yet, that is no biggie.

But yeah, dropping from 350ish watts RMS on bass to 150ish would kinda suck.

If you have a "3 preout" deck, I can strongly recommend another nice 5 channel, the Soundstream Rubicon 5.800. It is a great amp, but does not offer "summing" (AKA 4 channel input mode) nor a sub level controller, but it has great crossovers (never use deck crossovers if you don't have to), looks excellent and sounds great.

I see those for roughly $180 BTW...it really is a shame that the Jensen is pretty much gone. It was supposed to have like a $500 retail price, but they sold like shit so they got dumped...apparently, mostly on R3V!

Is there an alternate AMP to the Jensen that you would recommend, Luke?

MBQuart Onyx 5 channel, I LOVE the new Soundstream Reference 5.1000, the JL 500/5 is a winner...hell most all 5 channels, but not so hot on 6 channel amps for full system use. The 2 channels bridged is just not enough power IMO. 300 to 500 is great for bass. Enough to get fat boom but not need to upgrade your electrical syste.

I'm am totally impressed with my Polk Audio pa1100.5- five channel beast weighing in at about 25+ lbsl lol.

That thing produces virtually unlimited clean volume, no dimming lights with no extra capacitor or anything. Recently or soon to be out of production.

Polk has a new 5 channel "digital" amp that is smaller and lighter.

Bought it on the internets, never hearing it, just reading great reviews.

Yep, it's the shizzzzz! I think it's worth it to pay a little more ( paid $360 shipped) on a good brand than trying to skimp and buy a bargain brand. Almost went the $130 Crunch route...but just save an extra couple months and will have this thing for years.

This is the same specs, the same control layout and is made in the same exact factory as the $130 Jensen I am so hot on. The only difference I can spot is it claims 1 ohm capability @ 600WRMS

EDIT: it is about the same size, too
