    Vert box is in

After about 16 hours, spread over two days it is finally in.

Due to my undiagnosed obsessive/compulsive disorder I took no pictures. But the pictures in Luke's tutorial are very good. Much better than any I could have done.

I began collecting the pieces for the setup in Feb. Everything was stacked in my garage last week but I wanted to wait until I had a couple of days with no work to do the install.

I think it went pretty smoothly. I followed Luke's instructions pretty closely, although not in the same order.

Some observations that may help others:

Taking the seats out made it easier for me to run the cables.
Filing the edges of the cut holes helped reduce the number and severity of the cuts on my hands.
Hole saws are your friends. I used a 4 1/2" hole saw for the port tubes (pm me if you want to buy this), and a 1 1/2" hole saw for the corners of the triangles. A 1 1/4" hole saw would have been better. Luke's install guide makes reference to both sizes. Get the smaller one.
Any metal that was cut got sprayed wth a little primer for rust prevention.
For some reason upholstering the inside top of the trunk was more difficult than I thought it would be. Huffing some glue was fun though :D
Luke includes some things in the kit he sells that I bought or got from friends before opening the package. So, open the box and look inside before you make a trip to the hardware store.

So. The big question. Was it worth all the time, effort, and expense?
I've only gotten about three songs worth of listening time in, and so far I am impressed. What others have said is not hype. What little I've heard has been incredible.

I'll take some and post them from my office computer tomorrow. I'm afraid if I connect a camera to my 12 year old home computer it may burst into flames.

I actually burst out laughing on that one!

So good to hear you got it up and running...pain in the butt, huh? So far I think you are the 4th person to do one, great job!

          A few photos

Alright, so here's a few photos of the setup. I did manage to take one picture during the process, but it isn't too exciting:

You can see through the hole I cut on the left side of the photo some light coming in through a drain hole. There's another just inside the right hand hole as well. It didn't look like any water had ever been in the chamber of horror (an apt description given by Luke), but I left these uncovered anyway when I did the butyl rubbber sound deadening material.

Fast forward to completely installed. Here's an exciting few pictures of the amp. I still need to do some cable tidying.

Head unit installed. You can see the knob for the subwoofer lever to the upper left.

For the subwoofer level control I took a blank panel filler, drilled out the center for the knob, and then disassembled the subwoofer control & cut the case down so I could epoxy it to the back of the panel filler while still holding the knob mechanism securely.

The color on the Pioneer matches the dash & OBC illumination pretty closely. It can be set up with a custom color, but I haven't dug into that yet. My only complaint at this point is the display on the Pioneer is hard to see during the day, in the color that matches the dash lights. If I change it to white, it is pretty easy to see.

Wow, only the 4th? Hopefully you've sold more than that?

            Vert guys: get on it!

Now that I've had a little more time with the system, I am wondering if my amp is underpowered for the subwoofers. I bought two Kicker 4ohm DVC subs, and now am wondering if 2ohm subs would have been a better choice for the amp.
If my math and logic are correct:
Two 4ohm DVC subs wired in parallel presents 4ohm resistance to the amp. At 4ohm resistance the amp supplies 160 watts of power. So I am only supplying 80 watts RMS of power to each subwoofer, which are each capable of 200w RMS.
Two 2ohm DVC subs wired in parallel would present a 2ohm load to the amp, which would then supply 250 watts to the subs, or 125w each. Still under what the subs are rated for, but better than what I've got now.

So you have the voice coils in series, and paralleled the subs? Then yes you have a 4 ohm final load. If you can trade up to the 2 ohm DVC subs that would be better. Or if you can get some single voice coil 4 ohm subs.

Yes, I believe that is correct. Thanks for the feedback.
It still hits pretty good with the current configuration, so I think I'll just run it as is for a while.
I hope to make it so some of the local meets to show it off.

With DVC subs you can change your wiring to change the resistance... diagrams here

Seriously, kinda sad, huh? We are having a fuck of a time on the power top boxes, both in sales and design. Typical thing, just gotta deal with it. Hell, it took me 2 years to come up with the 10" box, and it is far and away the best seller.

                        Go show it off!

khalid: thanks for the link, it is very useful. I used something similar from the kicker website when I did the wiring

Luke: Hopefully I'll make it so some local meets. Once people hear it, it may spur some orders.

Make that 5 installed. I've had mine installed for a few months now. I am having issues with my subs though. They make no bass what so ever. I think they may be defective. No issues with the box though. Its built like a tank. Need to double check my wiring to the subs.

Luke is the man. He even included everything you need...even the 3M strip caulk.

Once I sort out my issues, I will post some pics, and write up a solid review.
