    Sub/Amp advice

OK, I'm in the market for a subwoofer. I'm pretty set on a JL 12w3v2, but I was just wondering what else might be comparable in that price range.

Also, it appears times have changed drastically since I was into the whole mobile audio thing a few years back. Apparently, DEI is buying everything and turning it all into shit (my beloved PG has become Lanzar! :( ) and Rockford has made a comeback. So anyway, I don't really want to spend an arm and a leg on a Slash series JL amp, and I'm looking for something around 300 watts. Any suggestions?

I'm in no way excluding treasure hunting for older goodies on eBay, either. I came across an XS4600, PG M-series amps, round Kicker Solo-Barics, etc. I just want to see if I have all the bases covered before I make a decision.

    Thanks.

I would go with a 10" JL, you get better sound--goes along better with the music, no excessive booms and rattles.

Well, I've already sourced the W3 and bought it...so that's done. Now I'm just looking for an amp. More than likely I'll be buying the amp from ebay, but I'm not wanting to spend more than 100-150 bucks. I'm looking for older stock so I can get something out of the box, so any suggestions for something that pushes about 250 rms @ 2 ohm?

Talk to Jordan. He was/is selling his set-up and it is AMAZING sounding.

              yeah. I'd talk to him.

My JL 250/1 pushes 250RMS into 1-4ohms. Rated anyways. Realisticly making 280RMS or so into 2ohm.

Meh, it's already done. I sourced an old MTX Blue Thunder Pro150x2 for a nice price. 300 watts RMS @ 2 ohm 12.5V, 110db or greater s/n and 0.1% THD @ 2ohm sounds fine to me. I can't afford this expensive new shit, plus I don't even know who still MAKES good shit, but I do know my old shit :)

(...awaits Jordan to emphasize "shit") :o
