My guess is that its your blower motor resistor. Perhaps something internal which regulated the voltage broke, so now when you go to 4 it draws too much powa.
that looks like a tough diy to switch out the entire motor. what about the fuse box? any likely hood. my mechanic did mention it could be one or the other
That diy was for the blower motor resistor, its actually not that bad, and was $20-$30 from blunttech. I've never done the blower motor itself but it cant be that bad.
Here's one for $50 here on R3V, you could probably pm him and ask him how tough it was to pull.
