Head Unit Recommendations

Well, on the plus side, I never really like it anyway. That *was* a Kenwood X994. It provided good sound and worked well with the iPhone, but the interface was absolutely atrocious.

If I can find something else with equivalent sound quality, but a better interface and less of a bulge out of the dash tendency, I'd be delighted.

My requirements are:
iPhone/USB interface
High end DAC
Good front end interface

I will be disabling onboard DSP, so that isn't useful.

That's a great looking HU from the front, but I'd have to figure out a way to install it back in the dash so it's (more) flush. All that poke is a deal-breaker for me.

99 dollars at amazon and you can get the color down to almost perfect to match your lights for your e30..its the one im getting here ina few weeks

Ended up ordering a Pioneer P7300. Hopefully I won't hate it.

It's really too bad that the Parrot Asteroid seems to be such a piece of crap. I wanted to like it, but the reviews were awful.

More settings, better components, etc. It was the top model from their arsenal line. They were $259. I paid $180 a year ago. Cheapest one i found on ebay was $150.

Rear USB allows to run the wire sight unseen. Bluetooth phone connection works great for calls.
Lots of colors to select from. One of the oranges matches the E30 dash almost perfect

Picked this up for $90, sounds amazing for the price, (couldnt be the 25yr old premium speakers could it?) and matches the dash lights fairly well, way better then my previous blue and silver alpine deck.

Edit: also its easy to use, you can change the clock in 2 button pushes...

Finding a HU with 3 pre-outs and at least 4V on them, but without any chrome/shiny bits on it for around $200 (or less) is proving a bit difficult. Piano black will work in a pinch but I'd rather it be flat (like the rest of the entire dash and interior). BT would be nice but it's not a necessity. My budget can be flexible for the perfect one. Does anyone have experience with any of the following units?

• Clarion CZ302
• JVC KC-AHD65
• Kenwood KDC-X595
• Kenwood KDC-X496

...or have any other similar recommendations?
