Where are you going to put your sub if you don't get a box?

I have a free air set up - it sucks...

I did it cause it was cheap and light (compaired to a box) and FREE...

I'm running the stock preimum system, and singe 12' woofer facing into the passanger compartment "sealed" in to the trunk thru the ski hole. I only did it cause I had the stuff lying around. It was free and added some bass to the stock set up. I make a box some day when I decide between a 10" or 12" woofer.

Back in the day there were companies that made "free-air" subs, but that was back in the early rap days where low muddy bass was a good thing...

        ....

Go to your local independed Car stero place. Thell them what you want bass but no box. They might be able to help you.

Another solution might be not using a very small box that you can live with.

I have decided to opt for a box, but a very small one!

I'm lookin to spend no more than $500 well at least i don't want to.

I know that MB Quart, Infinity, and Boston Acoustics has good components..but theres soooo much available. I don't know whats good or whats bad. I checked review sites..but I have absolutely no clue where to start.

Also i hear Kicker Subs are good...12inch would be the size I'm shootin for. A small box is acceptable.

Amps...i have no idea what i can get that'll but down enough powa for the said items.

Go with a 10" sub in a small sealed box, if you must have a small one.

Why do you want a 5 channel amp? Just get a pair of nice components for the front and a sub for the rear. Use a 4 channel amp with channels one and two powering the components and then bridge three and four to the sub.

Check out a/d/s/ for components. Hit me up with a PM or on AIM and I'll help you find some stuff.

                  Where's the other audio feller.....

For the 500 range you might wanna find used stuff. There was someone selling a set of Kenwood components on srtforums.com for 80 bux just about a week ago.... If you want some premo components though, A/D/S, focal, Diamond, MB, BA..... any of those are killer top of the notch. I ran a 6 4 tweet combo in my last car by Diamond. Mmmmhmmm..... nothin like a $800 set of highs to jump start your morning.

Now its been a few years and I've been out of the game, but I couldn't shake Kenwood in bang for the buck. Subs were inexpensive... a 12 running about 90 new... and amps were the same. I ran 4 12" "cyclone" subs and 4 829s Kenwood amps in my civic. It wasn't DEAFFENING loud, but it was loud. Loud enough people knew I had more than just a couple subs in the trunk. Low end subs aren't really going to sound much different to you. Any of the big names, Sony, Pioneer, Kenwood, JVC, MTX, Alpine.... anything will be good. Just need to get a sub size that will suit what you listen to. My general preference is if you listen to rock or more melodic music.... stick to 10's. R&B or rap.... 12's are your friend.

Amps..... same thing as with subs. Any of your big names will do you right. I wouldn't have any clue where to send you for upper end stuff in amps and subs areas as the industry has changed so much in the last few years.

Things to stay away from. JENSEN. HIFONICS. CRUNCH.... anything that says its 1000 watts and is smaller than a happy meal box. If its too good to be true.... it is.

Honestly.... if you want to get a good setup and don't want to spend a boatload..... PM jordan. He's got a GREAT setup he's selling for a hair under 900 bux. Maybe he'd work with ya on price.

nah i dont want jordan's setup. the box that he has eats up all of the trunk space. i still want some left over for shit to throw in.

My friend is telling me to get a 4 channel amp to power the speaks, and then another mono amp to power a sub.

I would like to buy the stuff used, but i have no idea what i want yet! haha.

so far i think as far as the amp goes...i may want an alpine mrv-450

Rear speakers are overrated, spend that money on better front components and run it like ken said.

Running a small 10 is going to take work to sound loud in an e30, especially if Jordan's box is already too big.

haha, for some reason I knew you were looking at Crutchfield when you wanted to buy Infinity Kappa stuff.

Save yourself some money and get an Image Dynamics IDQ10 DVC. You'll thank me later.

I don't think you realize just how much space I have left over. Considering what is there its a very well planned out and condensed setup. That is what I designed it to be. The box is 1.5cu ft. You aren't going to get much smaller then that. Keep in mind the firewall there is a 65degree angle, and the box is angled to fit flush. As such it really takes up minimal room. It's as wide as it can be, rather then deep, to produce the right volume. Its only as deep as it needs to be to clear the basket/magnet structure, and provide ample, yet minimal air space behind sub.

I moved across country, with all my worldly possessions in my trunk... Alot of tools, computer hardware, parts, clothing, bedding, etc etc.

For the money you aren't going to find a nicer system for a e30 then what I have for sale.
