    Radio Help

    Hey Guys,

I just recently picked up a 91 iX and my radio has been giving me problems. The radio seems to work (it accepts casettes and scans through channels) but there is absolutely no sound coming from the speakers. Not even a pop or static when im turning on/ off the radio. Any ideas as to where the problem might lie?

Even if some/all the speakers were bad/blown I would expect them to make some noise. I'm thinking bad factory amp. Unless there is a seperate fuse for the amp and radio, which I'm not sure of.

are they all plugged in? a lot of owners disconect them before selling the car. check that could be that simple. if not see if the wires in the back are all conected. and you can always look up the specs on google.

Everything is plugged in. I was thinking the amp as well. Is there any way to check the functionality of the amp?

Set your multimeter to ac volts and pick a pair of speake cable from the amps output to the speaker. You can find the color codes here: http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/showthread.php?t=191119

Put the the neg probe on the neg speaker lead and the same for the positive. You should be able to put the probes right in the plug on the amp and make contact with the speaker terminals, leave the amp plugged in. Turn on the stereo and turn the volume up a bit, you should see something reading on the multimeter. The higher the volume the higher the voltage reading (.xxx volts). If you get nothing on the meter, I would say dead amp.

You will have to unbolt the amp in order to access the wiring/plug that goes into the amp.
