    Mane that radio

Hey all, I pulled this from an e34 in a junkyard, but I don't think it's original. Any idea where it came from or where I can get more info? +12v, ground, power antenna and the speaker connections are pretty straight forward, but what are the other connectors? One is yellow and white, the other is blue/grey and white /brown. External amp? Thanks.

Edit: I'm an idiot, Name that radio

Leon, if you want some help from the big brains on this board, you might want to add more information other than the radio is a possibly aftermarket radio from a junkyard e34. Possibly a picture. Good luck.

Leon, that is a normal early E34 stock radio, same as a late E30, except for the thickness of the faceplate. It is also known as a "slider" because of that retarded infrared sensor control. If you have fingers bigger than about size 10, it will piss you off every time you use it.

You can take a look at the ETM (Electrical Troubleshooting Manual) for an exact color code breakdown. It is online in several places. Of course, make sure it is the one for the car you got that from.

Oh, make sure you get a code for it (and instructions of how to use that code) before you bother doing anything else. No code, no workie.

        GL!

Well I went ahead and bought it because it had a 5 digit number written on it I figured was the security code. I hooked it up quickly to try it and it doesn't seem like it's accepting the code. I turn it one enter the code using the memory buttons and it just beeps loudly and still says 'code'. I took it out and I'm going to let it sit for an hour before I try again.

So apparently you have not found the instructions of how to enter the code, but you may have learned "the power of assume", since your assumptions have all been wrong so far.

Find the instructions, find the proper code...oh, and you need to leave the deck turned on for an hour, not just sitting.

That actually appears to be a Late Model IR Slider E30 Deck. 4 channel output, one of the better ones they made.

E34's would have come with the C33 (Although many call the C43 a C33)

Here is a stock E34 deck, at least in every 89 - 90 I've touched (91 - 95 had them too) Perhaps you got some crazy 2 - 3 month only version E34 that had some odd changeover crap.

That looks like the Alpine CM5908, otherwise known as the "Pyramid" head unit. I just pulled mine out...The connectors are very weird, so if you don't have the factory wiring in the dash anymore, you may be in store for some rigging...Here are some photos of the OEM setup:

I'm iffy on this, but I think the audio outputs are low-level. Good for sending a signal to an amp, but no good for driving speakers. I'm still researching...

                  Incorrect.

Until late '90, all E34s have the "slider", as did the very early E32s.
