    200w amp, 300w sub?

So here's my problem. I have an Alpine mono amp, 200rms (300peak). I had a Cerwin 12" with the same wattage, but the coils are gone to hell. I'm interested in the JL 12w3v2's, but they are rated for 300rms, 500peak. Is this a potentially dangerous combination?

no, I dont think that would be dangerous. You always want the RMS to be pretty close, but you should be fine. If you were trying to run like 35 watts to the sub, that would be bad

it wont be a problem... w3's are fairly efficient... just DONT clip the amp by turning it up to high..

with 3 10W3 in my corrado running on 100W each from a PG amp.... my car hit 143db so dnt worry about it

i use to run my IDMAX with only 100watts when it's 1000rms, not a problem at all, all it means is that u can't turn it up as loud. All the listening volume is from the first 200-300watts anyways so usually thats all u need even with a 1000watt rms sub.

10's and 12's? Sell your alpine amp, buy a big huge amp and a big 18" sub and just pound. Don't need to upgrade mids and highs or anything silly like that  :P

I have a 15 right now... thinking of going 18, but I'd rather have that money go towards paint and rims.

they did have 20's on store shelves one time or atleast online cuz i was surfing the net a long time ago and stumbled upon a 20 inch sub.

Imagine a 20" sub in an E30.

anything bigger than a 12 is useless in my opinion... they loose the ability to have quick responce and sound musical at all... a 15 or 18 can hit hard down low but a few 12s will hit harder over more range...

i did an install in my buddies volvo with 4 boston acounstic pro 12.5LP and that car was downright painful to sit in.. it was hard to breath in there and hurt you chest when you cranked it up

Yeah my buddy has a older accord hatchback, with 2-15" Kicker Pro-Comp's. It's real hard to breath deep :?
