    Premium factory amp input levels

Somewhere along the way of researching an aftermarket head unit install, I swear I read the factory amp inputs ('90 M3) were low-level, but I can't find the link anywhere. I'm looking to install an aftermarket head unit but use the factory amp to drive the speakers for the sake of install simplicity. I'd like to avoid running wires or cutting the factory harness.

To that end, I figured I'd plug some RCAs into the aftermarket preamp output, cut the ends off and connect them to the factory wires that connect to the amp. Will that work? Preamp out to factory amp in? From the wiring diagram, it looks like I'd have to join the negatives, as they're currently both connected to the factory case ground of the OEM head unit. Seems weird.

Your aftermarket HU will be WAY more powerful and better in every way then if you ran it through the stock amp. Rear this thread:

Follow that, and you will be much happier.

I don't want to cut the factory wires, and I would need to do that to separate the twisted pairs of speaker wires (my system shares grounds at the radio). I guess I'll have to just come to terms with that. Beats running wire myself.
