What color is the Antenna wire? Other audio ?'s

I just installed my Alpine cda-9853 head unit and don't have my antenna hooked up because I don't know what color the wire is.

I did a search and that site with all the rewiring info on the E30 wont work on the school computer I'm on. So, if anyone knows what color the power antenna wire is I'd appreciate it :)

I bought 5 1/4" Alpine Type-S speakers for the rear deck but they are currently not working, so I need to look at all the wiring again and figure out what I did wrong.

And I have a question regarding these 5 1/4 Power Acoustic speakers I have. I don't remember the model name but they came with the car and are an older model that I don't think is made anymore. Whenever I turn the volume up on a song with some bass the sound will get all crappy and cut in and out.

    Any ideas?

I'm getting into car audio and am by no means an expert but I think my problem is crappier speakers combined with a song and head-unit sendind them too much lower bass? I went into the menu screens and turned a setting to 'low' (I dont remember the name but in involved an 'x'...) because a friend of mine whose an audio guru has the 9855 model and told me to try that. Also, I went in and changed the setting that has rock, pop, etc to one that has less bass and it helped a bit more. I am going to go in and raise the trebel and lower the bass today after school to see how much that helps.

Should I just ditch the Power Acoustics up front and buy another set of Type-S's? Or just move the Type-S's from the rear deck to the kick panel in anticipation of a subwoofer or two? I am probablly gong to put one or two 12" Alpine Type-R's in the trunk (obviously) and am still undecided on an amp.

I want a setup that can have an obnoxious amount of bass when I want it :) So, any other input would be appreciated. Also, the speakers in the kick panel havenew wiring and I'm pretty sure the rear-deck has newer wiring too put in by the previous owners.

I don't know the antenna wire color just yet, but tonight I'm gonna be doing some more fudging around with my deck and I'll let you know.

If you want to test if the Type-S are working, just unhook them and try hooking them up to a home stereo or whatever and see if they even play. If they play, then start digging up the wires.

Regarding the Power Acoustiks, 5 1/4" drivers aren't meant for bassy frequencies. What they are doing is telling you they can't reproduce the bass well and you should block bass from them.

This leads into the function I assume you tried to fiddle with, the crossover, or X-over function. The crossover means the point where you filter out frequencies you do not want, either high or low pass. What you want to set the crossover to do is high pass all of your speakers in the cabin at the lowest frequency you can achieve before it starts distorting again. Low pass filtering is what you want to do with your subwoofer.

However, a crossover point is not a wall. There is a roll-off at that point, and the roll-off is dependent on how steep the crossover slope is. If the crossover for your head unit is 12db per octave (it probably isn't, but for example), that means if your subwoofer amp has an 18db per octave roll-off, the amp will roll off at a steeper slope. The two slopes ideally should be where one set of speakers isn't overpowering the other. Try to find a point where the lack of lower bass in the car is nullified by the subwoofer taking over and not being too loud.

I had to rush to type this, so I hope it helped.
I retired my E30 for now...

          *Update*

Found the antenna wires and got it working and found the reason why my rear deck speakers wouldn't work. Whoever stole my deck really ripped out the wiring hard because they ripped some wires out of a plug. So, rewired that and it sounds a million times better with the Alpines in the back working.

You can really crank the volume with no distortion, thank god it works well now. So, I sense 2 12" Type R's with an Orion 1200D amp coming..

2 12s in an E30 is overkill. Don't know about your specific set up, but most people are pretty happy with 1 10" in a proper box - specifically with the Alpine Type R.

How do you like the 9853? I'm seriously considering getting one for my Jeep.
Where'd you get it? They go for $250 shipped all day long on eBay. Feel free to let me know if there's a cheaper source...

Yeah I've been thinking about it and I'll probablly just do one 12" Type R. I bought it off of sonicelectronix for $280, so ebay is your better be if the sellers are legit.
