Speaker Advice - Boston Acoustics SE50

    Hey guys,

I currently have the stock non-premium speakers in my 2 door 318i. Im replacing the blown back speakers with a set of boston acoustics se50 components. My question is, is it also worth replacing the front's with a same set? I do have plans to install a 10 inch sub in the near future. I have a generic sony deck if that influences it.

In my experience matching speakers make a big difference.

More importantly, for best sound, you are going to want your front speakers to be AT LEAST as loud as your rears, more if possible. Sound should come from infront of you, not behind. Really, you would likely be happier with having no rears and just putting the SE50's up front.

I can always soften the rears with an amp eventually though right? I just don't want to have two holes in the rear parcel shelf

Assuming you replace the fronts as well as the rears and then add an amp, yes you can drop the rears, but why spend all the money on speakers that you are just going to turn down to get rid of? To cover holes? Better off recovering the deck and saving some money.

Yeah, i see what you're getting at. But basically I would hear a definite improvement with the se50's in either position over the 2 front non-premium speakers by themselves? What i'm thinking is just putting one pair of se50's in the rear and then moving them to the fronts when they blow?.

I've searched and I know that the premium speakers are decent but I couldn't find that much on the sq of the non-premiums.

The power and sound quality from a head unit just simply sucks.

after researching and asking around, this is the setup i came up with and have been running for a year now.

Absolutely love it, and going with the 12 instead of the 10 is good if you want a bit more bass from your system.

              Planet audio AC1800.5 ($156)
              Infinity 1262w ($67)
              German Audio Specialties E3012 ($250)
Infinity Ref 5030 front and rear ($120/pair)
              Alpine ida x305sbt ($250)
              4gauge kit($25)

Im somewhat set on the speaker's as i've found a pretty good deal on them (220 usd for both pairs shipped to australia).

I won't be installing an amp or sub/sub box for a couple of weeks due to university and such. It fucking sucks that I can't get a lukebox because shipping one down here is ludicrously expensive as well.

Do you think having speakers and tweeters front and rear make that much of a difference acs cabrio? I've seen some of luke's recent posts and he said that you lose a lot of mid-bass from running without rears.

In a convertible the wind noise destroys sound quality
You NEED to pump in the mids to make up for it

In my cabrio I had this setup

Power Acoustik pr645N mids in the kick panels($50each)
Power Acoustik nb.2 tweeters in factory pods ($15/pr)
infinity 5032cf in the rear ($60/pr)
Planet Audio 1600.5 amp (on sale for $90 now)
Alpine x305s (any head unit will do)

The audio was surprisingly clear at highway speeds and great at 45mph and less.

Yeah, so it looks like ill be having speaker's front and back. But is it worth replacing the fronts with the se50's when the current non-premiums work okay?
