Cigarette lighter socket problem

It seems that the socket for the cigarette lighter in my car is too big for standard cellphone car chargers.

When I plug in my car charger, it does nothing. But if I push it down into the socket, my phone will start to charge. I've tried several different kinds of car chargers, and all seem to do the same thing.

So I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem?
Is there a cigarette lighter socket that I could replace the current socket with?

Have the same prob w my iPhone charger I bought. Didn't have an issue w my old droid charger. I'd like to knw as well if there are any iPhone chargers that work in particular
