    Replacement Speakers:

So i am just wanting to replace my speakers with something newer.

What are some decent stock sized speakers.

I dont want to deal with all the ohms and shit like that, just some good speakers. They dont have to sound AMAZING, but better than the rotted cardboard ones i have now.

    TIA.

I will never recommend Diamond as either a coax or seperate, unless you stuff cotton in your ears. Just my opinion, but damn, they are bright. Serious lack of midbass too, but that I can substantiate wiht spectral analysis graphs.

ON the cheap, I really like the Memphis "Power Reference" series...good cheap made in china crap, but the co-ax's have lifetime warranty and sound great.

The infinity reference series are pretty OK too, but the Kappa are 2 ohm. They have a tendency to overheat decks.

Sony, Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood....whatever. They all have their strengths and weaknesses.

Figure out your budget, figure out your size (5" DIN is the actual size, but the box will say 5 1/4") Grab a couple of CD's you like...go shop. Listen to your ears, not your buddies or a forum.

I have some old Clarion Pro Audio head unit with a 6disk changer in the trunk. So I'm not dealing with stock head unit/amp. I dont know any specs about the head unit as far as output and whatnot... I'll probably do some lookin around on the HU and then go to walmart with some cash.

Pretty much all head units put out around 15 watts RMS (continuously), and yours should likely be the same (disregard the bullshit 50x4 crap that most head units have written on the front).

I've always liked the Eclipse coaxials, and they're relatively inexpensive (around 100 bucks for the 5.25"). The tweeters can also be angled as a sort of "point-source", and they are easily powered by an aftermarket head unit.

I'll also vouch for Diamond Audio being super bright, as I have a set of their older components up front and I'm looking to replace them with something that can extend a bit lower.

PS, Wal-Mart doesn't sell good speakers...

I'd recommend some good used speakers on ebay.

Are you being serious? I hope your being sarcastic.

I swear, some people here like to buy anything and everything used.

I think ill be staying away from the 'bay on this one, and I've seen some "decent" stuff at walmart. I might do some searching around at bestbuy/Freys.

Ugh, you don't have to buy used goods to get good deals on eBay. A lot of people sell older stock or overstock for way below cost.

I'm not implying you should try these out, but rather get the idea of what I'm talking about (this case is old stock, 110 brand new):

Please tell what strengths and weaknesses you know. Id rather hear it staright from an installer who has had some experience with different brands.
I myself have tried these specific 4 brands that you mention but add Blaupunkt and Infinity but none of them hit as hard with deep bass and had the clarity the Kenwood Excelon system gave me. With all the others something either burnt up or blew up, so whats your take on KE cuz all this time i thought they were weaksauce!!

If you want bass just buy a sub.

I've got Alpine Type-S's and have had nothing but good things to say about them so far.

Actually, I really like the Excelon series. Standard Kenwood kinda suck, but there are worse.

Go to some stores...bring your own music, listen. Trust your ears!

No matter what price they offer, ask for a better deal. Speakers have incredible profit margins.

If you are interested, I can sell you a box, sub, Kenwood 4 channel amp and "pretty panel" all custom fit and ready to install in your car. I wouldn't be able to do anything until like mid-january, but I promise you will like it.

Oh yeah...cheap, too. Well, kinda cheap, anyway.
