Replacing non premium head unit '90 318i

    Hello,

I just pulled out my head unit ready to install my aftermarket one and came across this wiring setup. I do not have the premium system and this doesn't look anything like what I've seen posted for the DIY walkthroughs.
Anyone have any ideas on what I'm mean't to wire to what? This is the stock head unit (I think, it is a BMW one).
Pictures of the wires, harness that came with the aftermarket head unit and the aftermarket head unit...

Tested the two cylinder ones with a 9v battery and they are speakers left (front/back) and right (front/back). The ones with the white connectors I don't know what they are and that single wire is possibly the ground? Btw I think I have a fader?

    Oh holy hell!

That first pic just proved all my wisdom wrong...that is an aftermarket harness for the factory wiring!

Your car is the simplest E30 there is for installing an aftemarket stereo, you already have all 4 speaker wire pairs at the dash. If you ready the bypass thread, you can find the colors there.

You have 2 pairs of blue and 2 pairs of yellow. The black stripes are the positives for rear wires, while the red stripes are the front positives.

As always, look for the twisted pairs!

    Cheers,
    Luke

I Just Cut The Original Plug and I Used Clemen Connectors To Connect The New Audio Player .

Also it's Not That Hard To Connect It . It Only as 4 Cables For Memory, Power, Antenna .
And The Other 8 Cables Are - + Speakers .

      Anyways :
      Car Cables :
      Yellow : 12V
      Red : 12V Switch On
      Brown : GND
Blue : Antenna . ( Power Antenna Or Antenna Booster )

      Other Cables .
Yellow And Blue Cables Are For The Speakers .
Some Cars Have Only 2 Cables And Those 2 Cables Go To The Fader Switch Which Gives The Car 4 Speakers .
      Mine Has a 4 Speaker Originally .
But you Can Lose the Fader Switch Because The New Aduio Players Have a 4 channel .

        Thanks for the quick reply,
I was wondering if I took another photo of the wires could you give me a rough guide as to which ones I'll be mating to the clarion wiring harness?

Also I've had a look at the clarion harness and it has extra wires such as phone mute and remote on, are they needed? I have also found the wires coming off the fader control on the dash and I'm now left with more wires than I assume I'll be needing. Pic's included. The second one pic is of the wires from the fader and the third is a spreaded out pic of the wired that attach to the head unit.

Never mind I worked it out using the bmw manual and unwrapping about a foot of wire.
