    electrical connector cleaning

In the hunt for electrical gremlins, I found one in my c101 connector (by accident :) ). the alt remote lead has a bad connection in there.

I know they make a spray electrical cleaner, but by the looks of it manual labor is going to be necessary.

What do you use to clean these things? the terminals are so small my wire brush does not fit well, and the female terminals are a tad loose.

Should I use a dielectric grease after it's all done?

I would use a tooth brush or something to clean it out, maybe even try a tooth pick or something really skinny. Maybe folding up some fine grit sand paper so that you can slide it in there and play with it a bit.

the grease shouldnt be neccissary if you keep it dry and clean, use some shrink wrap or something.

I've heard REALLY good things about this stuff called "stabilant". It's some sort of contact cleaner that's supposed to be like magic. It cost alot, like $30-40 for a tiny bottle, but that small amount goes a really long way and if it really does what it's suppose to do, then it's probably well worth it. I have never used it personally, but have a couple of friends who swear by it.

Do a google search for it, I know it's popular among many of the european car techs, VW has is as one of their dealer-only shop supplies, so if you know someone at a VW dealer, they can probably get you some.

emery paper, it sands copper contacts and it can be made to fit anywhere.

Just dont let the grit of the paper get in your contacts.
