No, won't hit hard enough. Rap type "boom" is NOT low, usually around 40 to 60 Hz. Some lower of course, LLCoolJ's latest has plenty of boom below 30Hz...I am sure there is more, but as a general rule Jazz and Blues and Classical has far lower bass, but with less impact.

Tire well subs IMO sound like ass. I have yet to hear one that sounds like it is playing the same song...too much time delay. This does not apply to a hatchback, BTW, just sedans and coupes. I have done subs in metal boxes with MDF boxes inside completely under SUV's before...works great.

Try and think of our cars as 2 seperate enclosures, that explains it best.

is it not hitting hard enough the only concern w/ an IB setup? I am really not concerned w/ boom at all, infact i hate it.

Dave, the whole thing should take you about 3 hours. Using Home Depot as a source, get your MDF cut to rough shape, bust a jigsaw on the damn thing and find out! Forget carpet and shit for now, just make sure you get some Dynamat "Extreme" for the backseat adn go for it!

BTW...I think I have your box figured out. It would have to be deep, but I think my idea for a slot port above the woofer, firing through the ski hole would work.

Might mean trimming the ski boot hole, but that is no biggie.

When I say deep, I mean like probably 8 inches at the top of the box.

I wish my brain worked better. Such a simple idea but such a PITA to come up with.

Keep us updated in this project. I have always wanted to do a IB setup with a IDMAX10.
that wouldnt be an infinate baffle then. that would be a rather large sealed enclosure. all an infinate baffle does is seperate the front bass waves from the back bass waves, in order to prevent cancelation of waves

Dave, no need to be quite that anal about it. Factory grommets are pretty damn tough.

Get it done....or I will force you to buy a box!

you wouldn't have to force me to buy a box either way, but i'll give it a shot. I need to buy a bit more MDF. Do you have an pics of a setup i can look at. You say i need 3 layers of mdf but how big do they need to be. The first layer obviously has to do some spacing so i can put the woofer in the ski hole without hitting the metal. The other layers should go behind that and the screws should go to layers deep but how wide (along the seat wall) do i need to make the other 2 layers? I dont' really want this thing to weight 800 lbs the idmax is like 25 by itself.
