    Ipod Install Pictures Thread

So I'm sure more than a handful of you have Ipods or similar MP3 players hooked up to your car, and I wanted to see some pictures of the install.
I've seen bunch of pictures where the Ipods are mounted by the ashtray, but I was thinking of mounting it right beside the steering wheel (left of where the deck sits).

I just recently got a black ipod and I'm thinking about doing a nice removable install for it.

Also, I know that cigaretter lighter chargers are readily available, but can you guys direct me to a place where I can buy a charger than also has a audio output? I don't want to have to hook up 2 wires, but rather, just the one on the bottom.

    Thanks.

my zen micro fits perfectly snug in the slot behind the e-brake.

I drilled a little hole south of the heater switches, so that the aux line comes out and over. It's really clean looking.

        I'll take pics soon

This is a bit extreme--but it's an idea I've had for a while, and I hope to attempt it some day:

Disassemble a Video iPod; either by getting rid of your temp gauge or finding another way to make this work, fit a screen (doesn't have to be the iPod screen, something a bit larger would do well to read the text better) in the instrument cluster.

A screen that doesn't project as much light as the iPod screen would be a lot better--just something that lights up, not lights up and projects. The screen could be rigged up to dim with the light dimmer as well.

You'd then put the hard drive and battery pretty much anywhere behind the dash, you'd tap the headunit power wires so the batter would charge whenever the key was in the car, and you'd put the plug from the bottom of the iPod anywhere convenient so you could have your laptop plugged in and updating the iPod, but wires and such would be out of the way. The aux-in plug from the back of your headunit would go to the headphone jack from the iPod, so it would be simple to change from "tuner" to "aux".

For the grand finale, you would modify the top of your shift knob so that the click wheel could fit flush and look good. I'd think most shift knobs wouldn't have a problem fitting the wheel, but maybe a larger diameter one would be necessary.

And that folks, would be the absolute shit.

I don't have a photo, but I have a nice long wire running to the aux input on the back of my head unit. It fits in the glovebox when I don't have my ipod, or when I do it fits in the crack between the center console and glovebox and anyone in the car can reach the ipod to pick songs. Other than that I just have some velcro type stuff on my case and on on my center console to stick the ipod down. It works great for me, I can just slide the ipod out of its leather case easily and hold it wherever it's convenient, or let friends take control.

Anybody know/tried a "new" BMW factory business class deck (i.e., e46+) in the e30 deck location?

Will it fit and will it look factory, or has the size been changed to a non-DIN size?

I ask because all newer BMW decks have iPod controls, and it would look stealth if it fit.

Business class decks can be had for pretty cheap.

lol, the wire going into the glove box, that is what i am running in my car too lol. But that rig you were talking about (permit), that would be nice, the whole video thing might be tought with the type of wires that you would be running, and then same case for the click wheel, the type of wire that you would be running down the shift know and all the way back to the hard drive or where ever its gotta go would be tough. I bet they use a really weird small type of wire, so you would have to figure something crazy out to get it to work. But then again I think it would be awesome. So I got to give you credit for thinking that up.

you can get a CD43 (cd player) or C33 (which is only tape) both from an e36. Then you can buy a fancy adapter to plug your ipod into it and even have the deck control the ipod.

Or you can be a B.A. like me and build your own lol :)

                              EDIT:

Also if anyone is interested, its real easy to pull apart the e30 tape player and wire in a input headphone jack (instead of using a tape adapter) to just play music over, however the deck obviously wont control the ipod.

I am also getting my hands on the ipod connector (the big white one with like 218974 pins on the bottom) you can run audio and power through that so its only one cable to connect and disconnect.
