Here is a picture of my 1984 with NO skipass cutout, Build date of Nov 84. His might be the same. Is there a template we could use? Do we need to reinforce what we cut out? Help!

Well, we have a couple options, but it would be best if you could post a pic of the trunk wall. There are actually 3 different early trunk styles, and I can make a box specific to your application.

Last one I cut out (I have done a few) I used Snap-On "aviation style" tin snips, but I have used jig saws, air saws (pneumatic body saws) and "nibblers" (NOT recommended!)

If you do one of my 12" boxes, you will need a 3.5" hole saw too.

Sealed? Nope. I find sealed boxes flat, boring, slow and sloppy. Very rarely do I find a sealed box I would want to listen to...but, I hear what you are saying, I would agree that most ported boxes sound like shit. Mine "couple" fantastically with the interior of the cabin, and they are designed to work with the acoustical issues of the E30. My boxes are an audiophile thing, not your typical "car stereo" bullshit bass, so not at all what you expect from a vented box. They really do make tight, clean, articulate bass that is seriously fun to listen to.

As far as hearing one, I have shipped a couple dozen to your neck of the woods, I am sure we can find someone fairly near you so you can compare. We have shipped well over 600 boxes out, there has to be someone nearby, right?

Yes, you do. All M3s have the ski pass cutout, that has been proven many times. Pull the cardboard from your trunk or pull your back seat, you will see the cutout, then you simply whack it with a hammer:



If you switched to one of our designs, you would have cleaner, clearer, tighter more articulate bass, more trunk space and WAY more SPL. In fact, if you are using the typical car stereo shop sealed 10" cube, our 8" will easily outperform it with half the power.

We have sold over 600 subwoofer boxes on this site alone, the performance is well documented.

Yes. Easy answer, buy and install one of my boxes!

So yeah, you need to cut a hole (carefully!) but I can help you with that.

Your pair of 12's will still sound shitty, the E30 is a well-known "bass trap" and is one of the main reasons I design my boxes to work the way they do. Typical thinking of "throw a box in the trunk" just can't make good sound in these cars. The shit that works on a Honda just does not apply here!

You may not believe this, but one of my 10" boxes will kick the shit out of the pair of 12's you have now, and the 12" are absolutely brutal.

Getting the bass into an E30 (or any other really well-made car) is tough. We build our boxes to "force" all of the bass into the cabin. We use a foam gasket over the seal area just to make sure it is a 100% seal. Our 10" boxes use the ski pass hole for the ports and the woofer, like this:



Our 12" boxes use holes in the rear deck for the ports. The port tubes actually fit into the box, again, forcing ALL of the bass into the cabin:



Here you can see the foam gasket and how it seals. We recommend using 4 screws to hold it in place. They are visible in the 10" pic.


Our boxes come fully upholstered so the foam is not visible. There are lots of pics on our website. This is one of our 12" e30 boxes, fully upholstered in gray.



We also make 8" and 15" boxes for the E30, along with our beautiful amp racks




The beauty of these is in the performance you get, but not just big stupid boom, but deep, clean, clear articulate bass that is much louder than normally expected. The efficiency of the design allows smaller woofer to perform incredibly well, typically we expect to see over 125db under 35Hz with only 200 watts from our 10" box. Our 12" boxes have done over 140db with as little as 300 watts!

We get a lot of people saying "wait, that is ONE twelve?" Even better to me are guys that had a pair of 12" in a sealed box, then go to a single 10" G.A.S. box. They all say the same thing: louder, cleaner, clearer, deeper and better wound quality than any of their buddies, for 1/2 the cost.

Another wonderful benefit of our design is NO RATTLES! Seriously, it is just bizarre. Big loud BOOM when the windows are down, outside the car...but virtually no rattles inside or out.

Oh yeah, you get to have LOTS of big fat boom, but you keep most of the trunk space too.
