New stereo setup, only runs FULL BLAST

Ok wired my new stereo all up and ran into one last snag.

Basic stereo setup
Ipod → JL Cl-RLC → RF P400 amp

My problem is no matter what I do as soon as I hit play on the ipod it plays FULL VOLUME. Bot the amp and the JL cl-rlc show power.

I've tried
=Adjusting the volume via the CL-RLC gain control knob
=Adjusting volume via the ipod
=Adjusting gain via the amp's front/rear gain controls

Is there something basic I'm missing. I've read about a CL-RLC adjuster knob being dead on arrival, but I thought that I ruled that out when messing with the amp's gain controls. Guessing its something I'm missing and not a component issue.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated!

You are using the wrong output on the JL.
