I have an 89 325ic, just picked up as a fixer... On of the recurent issues I havent the slightest idea how to resolve is why the Active Check Control, showing coolent level, brake lights, etc, stays lite even with the key out off and out of the ignition... When I pull fuse 20 it goes out... But works when the car is turned on... I keep forgetting and I put the fuse back in, and it drains the battery... Anyone ever had an issue like this? I admit I am pretty ignorant when it comes to car electronics... So any help appreciated!

I didnt notice it when I bought the car... But yes... I noticed it pretty quick after, like a couple days... And almost immediately I had to replace the battery... It was drained, and ended up having a bad cell, which indicates to me this was a recurrent problem... Since now I pull fuse 21 any time the car is off, the battery has been fine...

In the meantime I have pretty much torn apart the interior and been trying to clean up fix all kinds of stuff, removed two alarm systems, finding bare wires where the shiething was stripped... and fixing these... This car is kind of a mess... I even noticed the cruise control wires had been clipped... But all that doesnt answer why the Check control stays lite... And I have no lose of systems... Everything seems to operate as it should...

Look at page 0760-10 of your ETM: http://www.wedophones.com/Manuals/BM...g%20Manual.pdf
You will see there are several things connected to fuse 21.
I suggest you disconnect the Check panel, see if your drain disappears. If so, just replace it.
Look at page 6216-0 also, you will see there are many connections between the SI board in your cluster and the check system. However, since removing fuse 21 seems to solve the issue, sounds like the issue is in the check panel itself.
If it isn't, it pretty much has to be the SI board in the cluster. There are several other circuits powered by that same fuse, but none of them are all that likely to be an issue.
