Did this car have a "lights-on" chime?

My car doesn't chime when you leave the lights on and open the door. Is that how they came from the manufacturer? I must be getting forgetful because I've left the lights on twice recently.

    Thanks

My E30 has never chimed when leaving the lights on. It chimes when I open the door with the key in the ignition though.

I don't even have that.. I'll have to figure out where the heck it is and fix it.

There is a chime speaker in the panel right above the pedals, it's possible it could be disconnected, I disconnected mine because its annoying haha:D

the lights on warning started with the e36's. Its something that i have been wanting to do to my car as well.

There is a little plastic access panel (1"x2" or so) in the knee bolster that pops out. It holds the door chime. Pop it out and see if the chime is still there or not.

It might have started with e31s, e32s. But e32s have everything.

Buzzer works when ground is connected
I've wanted to add a buzzer for the lights
                          I bought a relay
Would be a triggered by the light switch, and it feeds ground to the buzzer
                          Buzzer has 3 sounds
The single gong for the 36 degrees warning
                          Constant gong
And a 3rd one that over never heard comi from the car
I only heard it when I tested the gong to figure out how it works
I'd use that for the light gong

I've made this mistake once. ONCE. Now I obsessively verify I've turned the lights off every time I get out of the car. :-)
