    tricking headlight check system

alright guys, with installing my bixenon retrofit into my last e30, and currently into my e34, i run into the same problem. basically the harness to power the lights is a relay system that uses one of the headlight plugs to switch power from a chassis 12v to both ballasts. the problem is that it leaves the other headlight plug attached to nothing and therefore throws the 'low beam' light on the e30 and the annoying 'low beam' words on the e34 cluster screen.

my question is, what type of small electronic gadget (resistor, fuse, etc) could i make and plug into the open plug to trick the car to thinking there is a bulb there? what does the system check, amps or voltage? i have fooled it in the past with LEDs by adding the resistor, but the headlights are a different ball game with no bulb at all.

    EDIT: something like this?

A resistor should work to trick the check panel but I personally not a fan of it because it still drains power for nothing. The ultimate solution is to modify the "brain" of the check panel. It uses a small magnetic switch with a coil around it. When there is a big enough power draw (lightbulb) going through the coil it generates a magnetic field that closes the switch and the check panel will know that it's working fine. If the power draw isn't big enough (bad bulb, LED, etc.) it will trip the warning light.
There is a thread about this already here somewhere.

    EDIT:
    Here it is:
