    Harman Kardon aftermarket?

I'm a major fan of Harman Kardon stereos. Please excuse my stupidity, but does HK make aftermarket equipment that would fit an e30 or something similar?
but personally, it's all about Mariah Carey on the freeway

If I'm not mistaken it appears that Infinity is made by Harman Kardon. http://www.harmanaudio.com/Search_Br...INF&market=CAR

You can definitely set up your E30 with an Infinity system.
    Different strokes for different folks.

Awesome! It doesn't look like they make a receiver though. Should I go with Sony then for a receiver?

You need to research what's out there based on your needs/wants. You can't just narrow it down by a brand name.

Yes, H/K did make proper aftermarket car audio.

They made decks (weirdest piles of crap ever) Amps (I have 3 H/K CA260s, legendary SQ amps) Crossovers (I have 2 of their 2 way CX-2s, very rare 24db/oct) and even a few re-badged car speakers.

Their last little bits were tiny little 15 watt per channel 2 and 4 channel amps. CA15 adn CA30 were the model numbers. I won several trophies back in the early 90's with a '91 Dodge Dakota pickup that looked stock, but was a twin turbo 318, had a stock "joystick" singe CD deck that I had modded to be proper pre-amp outputs, just like aftermarket and a full-active all HK system using all Hafler (there's a historic name!) component speakers, the ones just after Fosgate bought Hafler. A single 8" in a custom underseat housing (go look at the back seat undertray on that truck, the thing I built was a beauty) was a .8 cubic foot vented box for an early Kappa (US made beast) 8". Completely stock look, even though I sunk the tweeters in the top of the dash.

The sound was just stunning. Clean, detailed, unbelievably clear, thunderous but ultra tight bass, all plenty loud. Sounded like a very expensive home system, way better than most. All with a total power rating of 45 watts for mids and highs, with a CA60 (60 freaking watts TOTAL) on bass.

Let me tell you, this was an extraordinarily good sounding car. Won every show it was ever in and was nearly SPL winner in several...and it was 105 watts, total.

So yeah, you could say I am a fan of H/K. I am planning on having mine modded and refurbished so that when I build an E31, it will have those for amplification.

Apparently, you have not spent any time researching H/Ks history, right? Go read up on some of the stuff they pioneered back in the early days. Super high current dump design, no global negative feedback at all, low wattage high current ultra wide response capability, ultra linear outputs...all kinds of stuff. Lots of "firsts" too, especially in radio.

Matti Ottala (sp?) was one of the greats of amplifier design, read up on the stuff he did.

These are not my pics, but this is the same amps I have 3 of that have sat for years...

I'm trying to get a budget together, with a complete car, some modifications, and some extra for repairs / etc. So far I almost have enough for an e30.
