I got an 85 with no skipass with cloth seats and i'm wondering if i should cut a big hole where the skipass would be or if i should drill a bunch of 3" or 4" port holes.

Cut a big hole where the ski pass should be. Take your time and don't hack it though. You'll be that much more proud when it's done.

        There's no structurability issues?

Considering later models came with the holes from the factory, I don't think you have to worry about it.

I recommend drilling holes in the corners then connecting them with straight cuts. That will keep everything nice and neat looking.
