What can i do to prevent my amp from overheating

I have a Planet Audio PA4003 Amp and I would like to know how can I prevent this amp from overheating, I was thinking of a fan, but how?? would it really work? the amp is just inside de trunk.

any suggestions would be greatly apreciated.

Mount it so that the heatsink fins are vertical. Probably to the back of the trunk. You can also pick up a crossflow fan for it too.

Is it upside down? If not it should not be overheating. Somethings wrong.

      Sold it.

Go to radio shack and buy a small computer fan and just make a little bracket and attach it to the side of the heatsink. Then just wire it's positive lead to the trigger wire on the amp so that it comes on with the amp and goes off with the amp.
I had to add the fan on my car as I couldn't run the amp for over 2 min's with out it over heating and shutting off.

dont bump it too loud. make sure your amp is compatibble with the speakers/subs its powering. ohms wise. heat rises off amps best when its sitting flat. (if you want to get technical) 8)

4 12s? I missed that part. How do you have them wired? Are they 8 ohm subs? or 4 ohm? If you have them all wired mono and paralleled you're going to fry that Planet Audio really quickly.

yeah, they are 4 audiobahn's they can be 8 or 2 ohms... I have all four of them @ 8 ohms an they consume 2 ohms, the amp handles 2 ohms very good, but if I have in volume about 16 for at least 40 minutes, the amp shuts down. that only happened once, but I want the amp cooler, I was wondering, can a fan help when the trunk is usually hot or very warm?

Jordan, thank you for your words :)

So they're DVCs with two 4-ohm voice coils? From what I understand you have the voice coils in each sub wired in series to produce the 8 ohms out of each sub. Then the 4 8 ohms subs are wired in parallel to produce a 2 ohm load (is that right?) If you have your two channel amp brided you'd be running a 1 ohm load off of it, hence the overheating. If I were you I'd run a 4 ohm load off of each channel by having two paralleled "8 ohm" subs running off of each channel.

I told you somethings wrong. I doubt that amp is 1 ohm stable.

                      Sold it.

the amp has three channels. Two normal channels and one bridged channel, I put the subs in the third channel in parallel

easy guys, I want to know. If I install a small fan at the amp, can the trunk temperatures affect? As I see, here in Puerto Rico the trunk is allways or most of the time hot, can I make any diferrence blowing hot air to the amp?
