iPhone 4 USB connectivity issues with alpine head uniy

When I plug in my iPhone 4 it says charging is not available and plays no music. My friend has the same exact iPhone and it still gets that message but plays. I don't get it. Any settings you recommend me checking? I am not phone savy.

Btw we are running the same main system update too.

Have you tried the trouble shooting items found the the units owners manual?

which headunit? I have a 9856 and had to purchase an aftermarket cable that supported 5v for the iphone.
This is the one I bought - http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=350824027203

I will have to find out.

Funny thing is it probably isnt the cable or the head unit, since my friends Iphone 4 (SAME PHONE, except he might have 16gig and he had his for a few years, I just got a refurb one this year.) plays over the cord and mine doesn't.

same thing happened to me with the first 5v cord I bought... had to buy another to get it to work. it's cheap enough to try if you have the correct head unit. it will also charge the phone.
