So I've been dealing with the dreaded "squeal" for a while where I turn on the radio, and mostly on humid or rainy days, the system will emit a high pitched squeal and screech. It only goes away when you turn off the stereo. From what I've read, this has to do with moisture getting into the amp and causing a short or something. So I know my stock amp is on its way out. Also a rear speaker and the driver's door speaker are shot and the other back one is rattling as well. My headunit is fine I believe, but the battery recently died and I've been trying to enter the code (which I have) ever since. Now there is the possibility that one of the previous owners (3 I think) have replaced the stereo. But I believe the serial # and code I have could be the original (came in stock manual packet).
So it looks like at this point, my headunit may be the only thing I don't need to replace. So then I have a few questions.
1. What is the best combination of equipment to get a good balanced sound out of a system for right around $500 (5 channel system). (good highs, lows, crisp, can play everything)
2. Can I use my stock headunit? Can I wire in such a system and still have everything work properly? I really do like the stock look.
3. Is it possible to wire in an auxiliary input to the stock headunit? USB? (may be pushing it, but I don't own any tapes and CDs are on their way out.
