installing 6.5 inch speaker in the front question

Bare with me im new to this forum lol

so i was reading the other post about fitting 6.5 inch speakers in the front, what is going to be the easiest way to fit them ? after talking to Jordan i came to a conclusion that its going to interfear with my latch and glovebox no matter how i do it, unless i relocate them. has anyone ever relocated there speakers? or is there a clean way of installing them in the same spot without them interfearing to much.. i honestly dont remember remember where the speakers are located compared to the latch and glovebox, cause ive been more concentrated on fixing the mechanics / body before the snow melts(got the car in september 05, and its been a slow improuvement lol). if anyone has a good solution, tutorials on pod making, or anything that could help me fix this it would be greatly appreciated. I would of just went for the right size all around but after coming across these for 100$canadian, after a kid crashed his car and exchanged em under the warrenthy, i couldnt say no. but for the rear and just gonna go out and buy 5 1/4 no complications, and try to keep the old grills on.

    Thanks:up:

    These are the speakers:

Honestly, it doesn't really sound like you're up to the challenge and the hastle of fitting 6.5"s up front. I'd just get a pair of 5.25"s and put them up there.

I relocated mine in fiberglass pods in the doors... lots of work.

After realizing that the only practical way of mounting 6.5s in the factory locations was to modify my hood latch and lock my glovebox for good, I gave up and mounted mine in the rear, and got 5.25s for the front

i see, i use my glovebox often to store stuff so i dont want lose it, so i think im going to see if i can find someone thats wants to exchange my speakers for there, (like 1 chance in a million LOL) but if it dosnt work im gonna go ahead and relocate them somewhere else in the front like kencopperwheat (nice job btw).

Hey I wanted to maybe try something like that. How does it sound? Are they full enclosures or are they exposed in any way?

I have the same compnet set. I havnt installed the woofers because i had a 5 1/4" pair also. but i did try to fit the 6.5" in the factory hole and it did fit. obviously, the mounting holes didnt line up and i didnt want to drill any holes into my car so i didnt use them. if anything, you can just make a spacer ring out of some MDF so the woofer sits out of the hole a little bit, you should be fine. you will have to modify the plastic cover piece though. Ive tried speakers in the map pockets, and IMHO they didnt sound very good. while driving, my leg was covering the speaker and blocked alot of the sound. positioning the face of the speaker more upwards would have given me some more sound, but the increase in enclosure size and having one speaker right next to you and the other on the other side of the car didnt really appeal to eyes or my ears.

then again, i have a convertible, so im sure its a little different.

I think they sound great. They're a bit bulky, although my leg doesnt ever touch it (I had to make them deep because of how large the CDT woofer is). They are fully enclosed and quite sturdy.

If you're going to sell them cheap let me know, I could use a good set of inexpensive 6.5 components for my Jeep XJ.

What is your plan? The door cards are pretty flimsy...

im going to combine the storage space on the door (of my car) to this (1) which i am going to trim (cause its to long now) then figure out a way to connect them once they are connect im gonna smoothing the surfice so you dont see the crack where they are connected before recover it with material. Then im going to just screw it into my door card (basically 1 big store area + the speaker at the end). gonna take some work but will look clean and nice, just wonder if its gonna interfear with my door closing but i dont know until i try. (speakers are already 6 1/2's) so after that il only have to pass my wire and hook up my speakers :)

                              (1)
