    decent, yet compact sub setup

Hello, I think that my car needs a little bit more bass. I dont need car shaking bass, just some to make music sound good. However, i would like to not give up all of my trunk space, and if possible, have it able to be removed and a short time. I was thinking a small box with a 10" woofer, and a small amp that would be mounted ontop of the box or something. Also, I have seen amps that are made to be built into the box in a hole, but only for home setups, does anything like that exist for automotive applications? If you have a smace saving setup and would like to post a few pictures that would be great

Infinity BassLink II Shipped for Free!

    Price: $299.95 - $499.95

Description from Crutchfield: If you crave high-performance bass but don't have a lot of space, Infinity has a great solution - the BassLink II car subwoofer. The engineers at Infinity used state-of-the-art technology to create this compact, powerful, and expandable amplified sub. Though it takes up just one cubic foot of trunk space, it'll produce resounding bass in any vehicle. The BassLink II brings together a 10" square subwoofer and a specially designed 250-watt amplifier, and then adds a 10" square passive radiator (non-powered speaker) to increase efficiency. This inventive combination provides loud, clear bass in a fraction of the space taken up by conventional sub boxes. An array of controls lets you tweak your bass for the kind of thump you want. The low-pass filter adjusts the range of frequencies amplified ...

yeah i thought about that, but it kind of seems like it may not be good quality or not very loud. I might like bass a little more then i described in the first post. If anyone has it that can comment that would be cool. I might just try the first version of it off ebay so it's less of a waste if i don't like it

also, My headunit does not have a sub output, only rca rear speaker outputs. Will i be able to hook it up?

Umm, that picture looks like an amp?

        Whats your budget?

Regular RCA's are fine to use as a sub out, it just means your deck doesn't have crossovers for subs (any decent amp should have it anyway)

yeah, that is the amp on the basslink. I would like to have auto turn on, but i think it needs speaker level inputs for that. Would anything negitive come from just splicing into my rear speaker wires?

            Crappy sound quality.

If it were me I would run a set of RCA's, and a remote turn on wire.

I have installed a basslink or two. Since the installs I did were sold with an amp kit, I ran the remote wire. I would be willing to bet that the thing would work just fine in auto mode using RCA inputs.

I dont think you are gonna get anywhere near the improvement or level of bass you want.

In a hatch, or some less insulated car you would be fine. The '89 Civic hatch rocked...well, kinda. It also had a deck with a high pass filter, so there was no corruption of the phase response on the bottom end.

Your deck has no high pass filter, and you cannot use "bass blockers" on your JVC...it will stutter and overheat if you try. You could run a small 4 channel amp for the mids and highs, but you would be bettter off with a new deck that has these features...plus the BassLink will still be weak.

              JMO, YMMV.

hmmm, I read most of the reviews on epinions and everyone had good things to say. They said it wont shake the whole car but it really improves the sound system. I dont know how it would be different from any other 200 watt sub. I may try out a used one

                  Yeah try a used one.

They are decent, but you obviously haven't heard any other 200 watt sub in an e30 trunk. I swear these things are so quiet.

This right here is my point...decent enough sub, just not adequate for most listeners in an E30. These cars are too well insulated.

I have a JL 10W3 in a factory pro-wedge box... its powered by an older model 600 watt California pro-series amp (that I got for free) I dont have any pics at the moment but I'll take some tomm. IMO it gives a perfect amount of bass but is not OVER-powering to the rest of my stereo...

I used to have 2 12's in my previous car when I was a basshead in HS... when I purchased my setup I wanted the right mixture and a nice CLEAN sub with good clean bass!

the sub might be for sale if the price is right and Luke could hook you up with a good price on an amp that would do the job...

Dont bother with the Basslink... its trash unless you have a hatch or SUV (something with open air space)

If I were you, I'd just go with a decent 10" in a sealed box. Most 10" subs will be fine with a box that ends up being roughly 14x12x6. Not too much space, even if you mount the amp on it.

                        ED has a package with a Nine.2 (amp) and a 11Kv.2 (sub) for $280.

I have a box that was made by Boston acoustics, with a 10' on one side and a passive 10 on the other side, it is real compact, and I'm happy with the way it sounds. and I only have 200w going to it. I got it back in 2001 and I bet you could find one pretty cheap.

I retired my E30 for now...

yeah, if RE would ever respond to you. I tried to give them about $1500 of my money, but I guess replying to an email is too hard.

I went with SoundSplinter (www.soundsplinter.com) because the owner Mike is a standup guy, who runs a clean show and sells a good product.

Plus the RL-p is loud and clean using minimal power in a small enclosure.
