    half inch roll down feature

Like on newer convertibles where the windows rolldown just enough when you open and close the doors so that the air can escape. This would be really helpful in getting the windows to seal properly around the gasket. Anyone have ideas on how to make this work?

I don't think it is used to let the air escape. Most cabrios have frameless roll up windows, so the automatic roll down feature is used to clear the window seal, which is fixed on the car. It would be pointless on a non-cab e30, since the window has a fixed frame mounted on the door.

Does the cabrio e30 have this roll down feature?

No, my cab doesn't have this feature. Sometime the window lands on top of the gasket when I close the door so it doesn't seal water out.

Your problem is a mis adjusted window. this is easily corrected.

This feature is found on e36 and newer cars. Helps maintain a good seal. Also greatly accelerates the wear on the gasket and the motor.

And if you want that greatly accelerated wear, I can design a circuit for that and sell you a "kit" with a full write up on how to make it happen.

I would be interested in a one switch one touch where all four windows roll down if that is possible. Something that would take the place of the window lock button that I never use.

Roll all the way down, or just a bump? A bump of all 4, or just one? Do you want all 4 to roll back up, like when you lock the door, or push the button on your remote? How about a bump down of whatever door opens, roll back up when closed, all roll down when you press the switch in, and all roll up when you press the switch again, or when you arm your alarm?

Use your imagination. It's only money, right?

Think up EXACTLY how you would like this thing to operate, then call me at my shop.

what kinda prices are we talking about here? I'm just interested in a simple switch that will fit in the location of the window lock switch made so that when you push it, all the windows will roll all the way down.

simple switch will have to control modules that handle the actual window motor regulation...no such thing as simple. Sorry. You gotta tell the motor when to stop running, see? Module does that with a current sensing switch.

Expect about $100 in parts. Will also give you "one touch" down on each window individually, if you choose the right parts.

                  HTH,

I like the idea... rewire the window lock switch to controll both windows at the same time... cant be that hard to do...

Not all that hard, but some kind of control module must be used, or the motors will continue to run...bad bad things happen then.

You could use relays to roll the windows down with the single switch, but it would be push and hold. That would be pretty easy to do. That would be 1 relay per window, plus basic wiring.

You would want to use a momentary switch, not a latching switch.

"Down" wire from switch would go to 87a
"Down" wire to motor would go to 30
                      +12V to 87 AND 85
Ground (from alarm, switch, whatever you want to control with) to 86.

I bought some green base switches without having checked the DIY writeup for the e36 switch retrofit (to find out I need the white base ones).
Now after finding out that the greens are for one touch, I'd like to have that feature, and I've read that the one touch module is part of the ecu. Would we be able to wire this up with a couple of relays and, as you said, a current sensing circuit? More to the point, how complicated would that circuit actually be? I was thinking if you could provide a part list, we could go buy all we need from Fry's/RadioShack and solder it up.

Could you help out on this?

                          Thanks in advance.

Ahhahaha....no. Sorry. No EE degree here, just 25 years experience installing high end car stereo. Takes me an hour to install a window module in an E30.

One touch is as easy as installing a module I sell for about $50 or so. Haven't checked on a price...not one person who has contacted me regarding one-touch has even called me...so i am not gonna order any until I am sure someone MIGHT buy one.

You do not need "one-touch" switches to do one-touch.

Most modules control EITHER one window up and down, or two windows up or down. If you want to do a cab, I would just do 4 windows up on arm, then 4 relays (on a pushbutton) to roll all 4 down.

                              hey installer.

can you set something up, so when i arm the windowlock button it sets it up so when i use the drivers side switch it will control both windows in my coupe and when i release the windowlock switch then i can control the drivers or passenger's window independently with their corrosponding switches?
