I think I am going to mount these in my door . I'll post some pics of the operation,
but it won't be too soon yet . Mine are Polk MM651 2.7 ohm . Mounting depth is 2 and 7/8 " .

    Customers car, sorry, not mine.

They did sound really good, and of course were amplified. Pretty sure they were 4 ohm though...

Oh hell, that was like 2005 or so. I know there are pics, the owner of the car posted them, but I have no clue.

Where this has the woofer is where they fit, just a speaker in a door, nothing special. Was flush on the panel, no visible changes

Yeah, the 'verts have even more room, the car I did was a 2 door late model, it was a squeeze.

Guys, grab a speaker and pull a door panel. With the cover off the door, roll the window up and down, open and close the door...there is lots of room.

GL and if any of you do decide to try this, LMK if you get stuck, am always here to help.

I went with a MS-8 and kept the speakers in the stock locations.

...wanted to keep my interior as stock looking as possible...:p

That's a pretty simple, clean, install IMO...

I have done fiberglass work before , mainly on my boats . This was
one of my options if I couldn't find a ready made part .

I can't understand why you think your set-up sounds crappy. I don't have nearly the investment, and am very impressed with the quality. Granted, there's quite a bit of pressure loss with the top down, but I've had a number of positive comments regarding the sound quality.
I was thinking 6.5 component system in the door . keep the tweeter location and have the woofer in the map pocket area .

probably would have to cut some door material off behind the woofer for more
cubic inches of air flow , to create some enclosure area .

I am not looking for a super high quality sound system , I know I can't achieve
that in this car , too much road and wind noise . but I am sure I could build a
    system better than stock .

one of my tweeters has crapped out now, so anything would be better .

in comparison to an hardtop the vert's audio is really bad. it's just the lack of top and small area for speakers to be mounted.

my system was excellent for what it was. it just wasnt quite good enough and that's due to the design of the car.
