I cringed when you grabbed the hazard buttons with pliers ouch. Why not just pull cd player out then push from back, prevents a mishap.

the CD player is bolted in through the back so there would be no way of taking that out first.

Stereos are made to remove from the front, not the rear. The stock stereo(s) have a bolt on each side (5 sided recessed head) and aftermarket radios use a key, generally just a thin piece of metal, that slips in on each side of the radio. This unlocks tabs on each side, allowing you to pull it out.
