    any othersinto competition level car stereo

    just curious who else here is into ultra-high end SQ car stereo here?

    i am in the process or finalizing plans for my e30 still undecided on amplification at this point and need to build some custom 48db slope active crossovers but it should all come together by late-spring/early summer.

    LOL wow 48db/slope, pretty crazy. What r u run? Get TRU or ARC if u got the money, u can't go wrong with neither two.

      I'm preaching to the chior here, but I'd recommend a/d/s/ amplifiers for SQ.

        a/d/s/ was excellent, but I have heard conflicting reports as to how good they are now that DEI has bought the company.

          a/d/s amps are still great but are also not really ideal for the install i will be doing

          i will post the plan in a bit

            This is the parts list so far

            Head Unit: Alpine 9815 (in the channel mode)

            == Front Stage ==
            Kick Panels: Scan-Speak Revelator 4" Midrange (sealed enclosure)
            Dash Pods/A Pillar: Vifa XT25 1" Dual Concentric Dome Tweeter
            Door Enclosures: Scan-Speak Revelator 7" Midbass (vented enclosure)

            == Rear Fill ==
            Rear Deck: MBQuart QM 4" COAX

            == SubBass ==
            Trunk Enclosure: Adire Audio Brahma 12 (vented enclosure - Tuned to 30Hz)

            == amping requirements ==

            Subwoofer: 800W RMS X1 @ 2ohm
            Tweeters: 100W RMS X2 @ 4ohm
            Mids: 100W RMS X2 @ 4ohm
            Midbass: 100W RMS X2 @ 4ohm
            RearFill: 60W RMS X2 @ 4ohm

            no passive crossover networks will be used it will run fully active
            rear fill will be run in mono and only used when there are rear passengers (well the mbquart will have their passive musicomps in place but those channels will be off 90% of the time)

            so i am looking at two class AB 4 channel amps and a single class d for the sub every driver on its own channel

            the sub amp will be crossed at around 50Hz and will have an audiocontrols epicenter in-line

            the mid output from the head will be crossed to cover the range for both the mid and midbass at the head and then it will be split with the custom crossover before the amps to seperate the mid and midbass

            i am trying to find a way to re-merge the high and mid output from the head into a single output to run the rear as well...

            so something that would input both and passthrough both but also output to a third combined channel with a seperate gain control but i think i am going to have to build that.

            none of this is finalized yet and i am still working out enclosure sizes and crossover points

            for amps at this stage i am considering for amps, tru, us amps, zapco, arc audio, audison but i may just go with the alpines as they are significantly cheaper and have the configurations that i am looking for

              nice looking setup. Adire...noice! You may want to check out Elemental Designs. Their type A pumps about 1000 watts rms and 1400 watts peak...for $300. Beautiful sub, it has been raved about all around the car audio community. I plan on getting one twelve inch A when I have funds to "burn" on car audio. Check out HiFonics amps also.

                  Yup, Brahma is a good SQ sub, u might also want to check out IDMAX and W7. Why are u going ported, why not Sealed, sealed is much more SQ. But looks like a great SETUP, u defintely won't go wrong with tru, arc, and zapco. If u get tru, makesure u get the purr brown upgrade, heeheee it would sound sweeet. Alpines aren't bad, my friend has one, sounds pretty clean but i htink u will be much happier with the ones i mentioned above.

                    the sealed is better than vented thing is a myth... a properly tuned vented is capable of a flatter responce and since the sub will only be playing from aroun 15-45Hz or so a vented will really work well... trust me i am not a bass head and this wont be a one-note wonder

                    other subs i was looking at where the IDMAX and and maybe the W7 but the W7 is too power hungry and is not much better performing than the other two... the brahma sound fantastic and are cheaper than most of the other subs at that level...

                    i think i have decided to go with linear power amps or us amps...

                    the tru amps especially with the burr brown are too pricey and i can get the linear factory direct for a fairly large discount.... nice thing about linear is there are simple with no flashy looks and no bells and whistles... just lots of clean power and lots of headroom

                      Hey natorious, since your into audio. What do you think of my plan?

                      HU: Alpine CDA 9813

                      Front. MB Quart PSD/PCE 213's (5.25/1") original locations
                      Powered by HIfonics (cant remember exact model) 75rms ish

                      NO rear

                      2 12" Infinity Kappa Perfect's in 1.0 CU Sealed with 1" poly fill
                      Power: JBL 1200.1

                      I think itll turn out nice.

                        should sounnd great... only comment i would have in that is if you have rear passengers they are really gonna get bassed to death and not be able to hear everything... thats why i am installing the old mb quarts in the back just in case i have rear passengers i can turn em on.... sometimes its nice to have a little rear fill anyways... and if you run it mono then it wont screw up the stage or imaging too much

                        ohh and you may want to go with a 6.5 up front and do a little trimming if you need to... the factory speaker mounts are a not the greatest... so filling in some of the holes there so its more of an infinate baffle and not a leaky mess should imporve the sound significantly

                          I rarely have passengers in the back but ive toyed with putting some MBQ ref. coax back there and fading it forward unless someone's back there. Ill think about it. ALSO, how would i go about sealing off the front "enclosures"? I know i *should* go with the 6.5's but im trying to keep this as stock looking as possible so 5.25's it is. Unless i can cram some 6.5's in the kick panel without major modding and NO coneslap.

                            got me there... there isnt much room i am building enclosures to take care of that maybe ask other people on here who have 6.5s in place already... maybe build a thin ring/plate out of sheetmetal and use silicone and or windsheild sealant to fill in any gaps gaps around the plate and car and then mount the speaker to that... depending on your mounting depth and if you are willing to mod the car you could open up the stock opening more and build a stepped ring out of mdf to move the speaker back and it will fit behind the stock panel...

                              Don't hit me too hard for digging up old threads.

                              Natorious,
                              I was wondering how your set-up was coming along?

                              You're pretty much the only person (there may be a few others) that I think know quite a bit (a ton) about car audio.

                              I'm contemplating selling my current CD player: Clarion DRX9375R
                              I think I might get the Rockford Fosgate RFX-8240. It's the Platinum series (made by Denon) which isn't available in the states yet.
