Help me figure out the wires on my Panasonic

Hey so all I need to do to get my 318is in ideal shape for me is to install my cd player. Only thing is I had to take it out of my ix very quickly at the towing services storage place and didnt write down what each color wire off the back of the player went to. Stupid I know but I just didnt have the time. Anyways its a Panasoniccq-df903u headunit and these are the color wires that come out of the back.

    1 yellow
    1 red
    1 black

    2 purple
    2 grey
    2 green
    2 blue
    2 white

Im assuming 4 out of the 5 pairs of two are to the speakers but by any chance anyone have any idea which ones?

Almost all modern decks use the same color codes.

    Yellow: +12V Constant (AKA Battery)
    Red: +12V Switched (AKA ACC)
Black: - Ground (AKA Earth for you third world countries)
Blue: +12V OUTPUT for power antenna/remote
you may also find orange, yellow/black, blue/white...ask again if you need more help.

    Speaker wires:
    White: Left front
    Gray: Right front
    Green: Left rear
    Purple: Right rear

Of course, those colors each represent 2 wires, one with a black stripe. I will just leave you hanging on what is what on the 2 wires per speaker thing...haha, sucker!

Just kidding. I am sure you are pretty clear on the whole "black stripe" thing.

black stripe is negative right? Im seriously a car stereo newbie, but Im convinced I can do better than the fucktards at best buy who wired up my deck in the pathfinder.

Also what colors will each respective aspect be in my stock 318is setup?

I tried hooking up a new aftermarket deck, and I could never get it, the germans wired up the cars like crazy. The easiest thing for me to do, it takes a little time but it was well worth it. Just run new speaker wire to each speaker and you will be all set.

It can be either, depending how deeply you are wanting to tune your speaker time alignment ;)

All that really matters with respect to phase is if you wire one speaker with the stripe as negative, do it for the rest of the speakers. Remember it's polarity, not current. If you want to test for proper phase, just grab a 9v battery and connect the wires to the battery posts. The cone will either move in or out. Moving out means normal phase, and moving in is reverse.
I retired my E30 for now...

In reading David's post above, let me clarify one thing...do this "battery pop" ONLY on the speaker, make sure the deck is disconnected from that speaker!

This "pop" is the most common way installers test for polarity or to see what wires are what.
