    early/ late cruise?

What year differentiates early vs late? I have an 87 and from what I am reading early cruise does not have a decelerate option. Does my car fall in that time frame of early? My cruise sets the speed and cancels it, but does not do decelerate, so before I go investigating I thought I would ask.

My 87 has accelerate and decelerate controls and I have never seen one on earlier or later cars that did not have both controls. If accelerate works and decelerate doesn't that is a fault in the switch, wiring or cruise control module.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Thanks for the reply, I was considering buying a known working stalk to see if that was the issue. Not sure I just want to toss parts at it, or do some real testing.

The switch assembly would be my first suspicion. But a little detective work with the wiring diagrams and a meter will tell if the signal from the switch reaches the cruise control module. Which in turn tells you where to look for the cause.
