Premium sound issues. Barely any sound from one rear deck speaker

Had some friends help me diagnose the issue (since I'm clueless about wiring)....and we removed the inoperable speaker, and swapped with a known working one. No difference. Tested the wires leading to the speaker and everything seemed to check out.

We cranked the volume up, and noticed there was sound coming from that speaker, but very faint. I just thought it was dead.

Question is, is the headunit fried? Its the stock Premium headunit w/ finger fader thing. I have a spare one that I was going to swap, but was wondering if this was a known common problem with these stock units.

One CH on the HU could have died. Have you messed with the fader to see if playing with that has impact on the output of the radio?

yup I did mess with the fader, and the problem remained unchanged. I will swap the headunit out w/ a spare one I have and report back. Thanks for the reply! I guess if this isn't the issue, the only thing I could think of is a bad stock amp?

The fader and then the amp would be my first suspect. The HU is only stereo (left and right sides). So if the front speakers work properly, it won't be the HU.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

interesting...i didn't know this. and yes, the front passenger speaker works. The rear passenger one is the one that is really really low (barely audible). I'll see if i can find a used stock and swap it out. Thanks!

They are getting harder and harder to find, for sure.

Good luck and if you do want to diagnose further, it isn't that tough to do.

so i finally was able to swap the amp with another 'good' OEM one, and no change. The one rear passenger speaker is still barely producing any sound. Power is going to that speaker, and have already ruled out the speaker itself.

Is it safe to say its' the headunit?

jlevie, i know u mentioned the headunit does only right/left though....so I'm royally puzzled now.
