    Coustic Power Logic?

Anyone ever delt with these speakers? While Parting out an Mk2 Gti i found a set of these components in the front doors. They were not hooked up, and there was no crossover. They do visually look to be in good shape tho.

The sizes look to be a match for the factory stuff in my e30. Are they worth keeping or should i just flip them? Is there any way to bench test them before i go tearin apart my doors to install em? If i were to install em would they sound alright running off my alpine headunit or would i need an external amp? Crossover? do i really need one?

I found the Mid/Sub Partnumber listed in the 'classic' section of the Coustic website...
    HT-605v
    150 Watts
    80 Watts RMS
    80 - 18,000 Hz
    89 dB SPL
    4 Ohms

Cant seem to find the highs listed anywhere on the site. Its wierd tho cuz the cover on the tweeters has a 'K' logo on it. Almost looks like a Kicker logo.

Those are component midranges, and the tweeter is Kicker. No crossover means he either took them along (weird), or he was running them actively. They would probably sound like crap off the head unit from being underpowered, along with having no filters. I dunno, the power ratings used are kinda misleading. Either way, you're gonna want to get filters, and building a component crossover will be more troublesome and costly than the speaker's worth. I'd pass...

Hey Greg...go to any local small install shop. Have a $10 bill in your pocket. Head straight to the shop, walk up to anyone actually working on a car and ask if he has a set of crossovers sitting around...I bet he does.

I bet he would trade a pair of crossovers for $10. I have many times.

Wire them suckers up, they handle virtually nothing, so expect less bass than the stock speakers, but if you have a sub you should be just fine.

What model is your Alpine? Does it have a high pass filter?

        Luke

Hey Luke. Im running an Alpine 9833. To be honest im unsure of any built-in filters I can tell you that the headunit install was done by bestbuy and no wires were run to bypass the factory amp.

            9833 huh...bass engine pro. Got a sub?

I would do this: set the switch on the bottom of the deck to "3 way" mode.

Run a pair of wires to the tweeters, another pair to the midranges, both in the factoy front locations.

            No rear speakers at all...

Put a single 10" sub in the trunk, powered by about 300 watts.

Excellent sound right there...full triamp mode!

Unfortunatly i dont currently have a sup setup in my system. I'll prolly hold off on throwin these speakers in untill i am ready for that. If i were to run it in 3 way with seprate wires to the tweeters and the mids, would i still need a crossover?

I wonder how much it would cost me to fly you out here to hook me up nice :p

Thanks again Luke, I appreciate all the help.

Greg, your deck has all the crossovers you need if you do it the way I suggest. Adjustable levels too, so you can vary the mid vs tweeter and still have sub levels.

A Walmart amp is $50. A Walmart sub is $38. A box from me that looks and fits perfectly is about $200 plus shipping...believe me, no one would ever suspect your shit came from WalMart. If you think crappy speakers can't sound great, go listen to Bose...junk drivers, great cabinet engeneering.
