    Thoughts on speaker baffles?

Anyone here running these? I honestly know nothing about them, and just curious as to the advantages and disadvantages of having them? I've read that people who use them lose a bit of bass in their speakers, but CAN POSSIBLY get an increase in sound quality as the sound doesnt escape to unwanted areas. Again this is all internet research so I have no idea how true it is. I would think that much like a subwoofer, the sound quality would have to do with the air space/pressure inside the baffle

My question is, with the incredible bass that the lukebox offers, would something like this be a worthwhile mod to the remaining speakers?

Luke, i'm sure you'll see this too so please go easy on me if you think these are completely stupid lol

This is the product in question:

    Cheers!

Those are great for the doors of a pickup, but they choke the ever lovin shit out of midbass. No matter what speaker, you will be lucky to get anything under 300Hz with them, and I want solid response down to 80Hz or so.

I always cut a big hole in the bottom of them so they didn't suck so bad.

I'll be running a couple sets of JL C5's from my old car both in the kick panels and in the rear deck. I've also read that people use these for water/moisture protection in older cars. Would these be worth buying to just cut holes in the back like you mentioned and have the added safety that no water will get to the speakers? Not sure how reliable the seals are in the E30's everywhere around the speakers.

Keeping with the same idea, how big would you need those to be to improve the sound over having the back of the speaker open to the air? Basically what size "box" would be ideal for a 5.25" speaker?

Depending on the design of the speaker, as little as .2 cubic feet and as big as 3 cu. ft. for proper tuning.

Car speakers are tuned for infinite baffle, basically the same as a HUGE box.

Hey Patryk, I work for Visions in Red Deer, if you have any questions give me a shout.
Anyways, the stock locations aren't bad, but the biggest problem is that the factory speakers are not quite a standard size and there usual will be air leakage around aftermarket speakers. I'll find the thread with what I did and link to it.

If you scroll about halfway down this page, you can see the mounting rings I made for the speaker baffle, and on the next page is the kick panel modifications. I have actually redone them and just finished dying the passenger panel, so I will grab a pic of that tomorrow.
