I've tried and tried, but I can't seem to find a replacement antenna retaining nut for the stock hirschmann unit. anybody have any ideas? it's the nut you take off to pull out the mast.
Yeah I mean I've got the rubber gasket but there's this retaining nut thats like a 12mm at the top of the rubber part.... It makes me sound stupid explaining it, I'll try to get a pic in later. Anyway, I was trying to get it off to measure the mast for ordering a new one, and the exposed part where you put the wrench broke off with the rest of it still in the hole. I'll have to cut my old bent antenna to get access at the opening and use a big EZ out on the nut, that doesn't bother me, I just don't know where to find a new one.

I think from the sounds of it that you have some good old PO fuckery happening.
If your car is later than 1985, there is no top nut at all, period. There is a rubber base that you shove the antenna through, from the bottom.
If it is an early antenna, there is a chrome base and a chrome nut.
The chrome base will have a roundel embossed in it.
Post a pic of what you have going on, R3V will help you sort it out.

The car is a 1987, so I'm a little confused. PO is my mama so hopefully no fuckery haha. I have seen early chrome antennas...mine isn't like that. maybe this isn't a stock piece? the top of the antenna mast says " h 10" on it and I've taken it apart before and so I know for a fact it's a Hirchmann unit. anyway, here's the pics for tonight. tomorrow when it's light out I'll show you what it's like with the radio on, how the broken part of the nut can be picked up and slid up and down on the mast.
See the nut I'm pointing to? The top where you'd grab it with a wrench snapped off the base and spins freely on the antenna, but the base of the nut is still in the hole, retaining the mast in there
Also, thought it might be worth noting that the grommet is OEM, changed it myself, and no leaks. fits this antenna perfectly.
It looks like the "nut' has sheared off from the threaded sleeve.
That assembly comes with a replacement mast.
The difficult part is removing the threaded sleeve that remains inside the motor assembly.
Do you need to replace the nut? I believe the threaded sleeve is the part that actually retains the mast.

YES! That is what is supposed to look like

Oh thank goodness! haha I sweat the small stuff! Well knowing that that's all it is, I guess I could get the threaded part out with some vise grips and swear words right?
