    quick question about using tweeters

stereo going in is pioneer DEH-X6500BT.
    It's a typical 4-output stereo, also has pre-out for those 4 channels.

I have to swing by bestbuy in a few hours to get a new harness connector for it.. while I'm there I need to grab whatever I'll need to hook this up.
Previous owner fucked up the wiring, so I'm running new wires. So all options on the table.

Original plan was to straight power all 4 speakers but I will buy an amp if I can get a reasonable 4ch one for $100 or less. I'm NOT going crazy loud on this.

How should I handle the tweeters? I kind of want to run them in parallel with the fronts thru a hi-pass filter.
If I amp the 4 main speakers maybe I'll use the powered out fronts for the tweeters? I think I should be able to turn the pre-outs up/down and get things dialed in right.
I'd like to leave subwoofer upgrade option available for a later date, can't invest in that right now. Max budget is like $100-150.
    Thanks.

know what.. totally going to run the tweets thru the fader knob so i can turn them up and down.

IF you have the stock premium speakers already, there is a "crossover" of sorts built into the midwoofer that drives the tweeters. Basically it is just a capacitor and a small coil. No need to do anything fancy other then run signal to the midwoofer and make sure the tweeter wires are hooked up to it.

I highly suggest you read this thread:

And not just the first post, all of it. Lots of good info in there.

Basically you are going to want to bypass the stock amp and eliminate the stock fader in the dash. All the wiring you need is upstream of the fader, just unwrap it until you find twisted pairs.

Interesting idea with the fader knob, but a few problems. It runs a 6 wire system that shorts the grounds together, some stereos don't like that. Also, running tweeter and mid together on the same channel will lower the impedance of that channel, make sure your stereo can handle that lower impedance.

A quick look at the manual for that head unit says don't use lower than 4ohm speakers. So if you have a 4ohm mid and a 4ohm tweeter together it's a 2ohm load. No bueno.

If you use a crossover the impedance's don't add. If you look at the actual impedance at the frequencies being played they probably don't get down to 4 ohms anyway.

            quick question about using tweeters

Yes, very true, and he should run a nice passive crossover instead of just a high pass filter, which is just a capacitor, aka half of a first order crossover.

If he wants to run just a cap, then he should size it for the crossover frequency and for its high freq impedance to not go too low.

turns out the cap was still there.. 3.3uF. so i kept that in series. then i ran the fader knob in series. functionally it works and the main speakers sound fine, tweeters giving just a touch of high pitch stuff. the fader knob is kinda pointless though, the resistance is too high as soon as you move it off center. it might as well be an on/off switch. lol
