Wiring diagram for OEM/BMW K40 radar detector

Hi -

Does anyone have a wiring diagram and / or instructions for hooking up with the original dealer accessory BMW K40 radar detector?

I've reached out to TurboJake a few times per some other forum members' advice, but he hasn't responded (and my car is in the shop at the moment for some other work and I'd like to tackle this as well, so time is of the essence).

We have similar tastes.

There is an online forum dedicated to radar detectors and the like. One moderator has blurry scans of a total K40 BW-200 to include all paperwork. I have asked for his help in getting better scans but no luck.

From there I went to K40. They are super nice people. I felt bad for never having purchased anything from them. Anyhiw, their long time technician came on the job in 92. The BW200 was foreign to him but was able to say what the colors are for.

The BW200 I have seen two variations. Only cosmetic. One is BMW branded the other, in place of the roundel, is a K40 model branding


I have never seen a pin out.

And I got my phone in today and the BT piece to scavange. I may be in touch with you soon to hold my hand.

Ah, yes - the "ld stuff that doesn't work well but is period-correct" club. Welcome to the insanity. ;-)

Any chance you could share with me what you learned about the wire color?

K band is still good.

I have it written down at home. Basically color to color..clear to white.

If you know better questions to ask K40, they are very helpful
Maybe I did not ask the right things. It seems that this vintage gear they do not support in any fashion than what the long time tech recalls. No parts laying around, no brochures filed away, etc.

That link above iis the most knowledge dense. Video of it wired and working. Tech told me it needs to be totally wired up..guess it needs to satisfy its internal checks before it will power up.

Can't be too tough. Just match up wires and give it a power and a ground. I plan on getting mine installed when the weather is cooler.

Not that there is any relevance, but did you guys know K40 made car audio back in the day? I was a dealer all through the 80's and 90's, sad to see them not be the best in the biz any more
