Bunch of e34 component speakers from pick n pull, gonna piece together a system

So I just got back from the junk yard, there were 3 e34, an e36 and an older 7 series. I got there late and was able to grab about 3/4 of what I wanted, but some cars were incomplete. I'll be going back tomorrow, there were a couple I missed.

I have 7 mids, 2 front tweets, two rear tweets, a bbs wheel cap, and an engine cover to carry it all in. I'll post part numbers soon.

What I want to do is get the best condition matched pairs, build passive crossovers and install these in my e30. I'll be adding a sub soon too.

What should I crossover the mids and tweeters at? I'll have the deck low passing to the sub at 80hz.

I heard there's a difference in the years of the e34? Any other pointers?

    Thanks -Kevin

Oh, so these don't have the passive crossovers built in like the e30 premium speakers, so should I also snag the e34 passive crossover network? It's in the trunk right, is it hard to get to?

One e34 also had a set of intact projectors, usable? Worth anything?

Haven't cleaned them up yet, or tested, but all seem to be salvageable.

Yes, I very much want those, but the price is kinda steep for me right now.

Parts express has crossovers that I can put together for about $20 a corner, I think I'll be going with that, I just want to know the crossover frequency. EDIT: derp, the crossover freq. is printed right on the crossover.

Heading back to the junk yard soon to see about the rest of the speakers. I think I missed 2

            Thanks!

Ok, went back and got the rest!

4 mids 65 13-8375 082 8 ohm and one more midbass 65 13-8 375 081 4 ohm. I accidentally tore a rear midbass so left that one :( Anyone ever done a 12-13 speaker setup in an e30? Placement would be hard! Off the shelf 3 way crossovers on parts express are about 800hz-5khz does that seem about right for these speakers?

woo hoo, all tested and only EDIT: twobad ones! The dead one is a mid, but it's kinda crusty anyway from a gross car so no biggie. And one front tweeter. Mid is blown VC and tweeter is blown cone.

Looks like I'll be doing 3 way in front and 2 way in rear. when I find a second front tweeter. Now just wondering if I should buy a 4 channel, 5 channel, or just run my 2 channel on the front and let the deck handle the rears. I'd have to take the 2 channel from my sub though :/

You are aware that speaker impedance changes the parts used in the crossover, correct? Use a calculator if you want to be at least close to correct, make sure to double check. If you get stuck, hit me up, I would be happy to help.

Yeah I used a calculator, the values were pretty close to what PE has on the shelf. I'm doing second order tweeter 5khz 4ohm, first order band pass mid 800hz-5khz 8ohm, second order midbass 800hz 4ohm, head unit low pass to sub preout 90hz. Prebuilt with electrolytic caps is 22$ a corner, or if I build them with poly caps it's 21$ a corner. Cheaper because the rears will just be 2 way and crossed at 5khz.

Think I'll be fine with head unit 20wrms to push the components? My matrix had components in front with this head unit and it sounded fine. I'm not trying to make my ears bleed, just get better sound loud enough to hear over road noise.

                    Thanks!

Hrm, I just setup my subwoofer and I think my head unit JVC KD-APD49 is still sending low to the corners. I thought it was supposed to low pass to the sub out only but the corners still distort at the same volume. I'll just have to take it easy I guess :(

How exactly do you have it wired? Sub pre-amp output to an amp? I'd make sure bass boost or "loud" isn't turned on in the HU.

Yes, preamp output wired into amp. HU set to 90hz low pass, no loud or bass boost. I'm thinking of setting the low pass higher, but didn't want to abuse the sub too much. I don't have a scope or any test tones to try so I'm just going by ear. And some songs sound just fine and some like crap. I've tried higher bitrates and everything.

So no high pass filter in the deck? Get an amp with high pass, stop dicking around with deck power, its gutless. If you have to get some sleazy 25WPC 2 channel taiwan junk its still better than deck power, especially if the deck doesn't have high pass. There has to be something somewhere you can do to get some power and better active crossovers.
