wiring in an amp??

So I have a alpine head unit with amp outputs, do the outputs carry the signals for the speakers? the output to the amp in then wire the speaker output correct? and now I need a switched source when you turn on the stereo I want the amp to come on. Power from the antenna power lead? Or a larger wire to prevent melt down?

Help for the stereo noobie.

on the back of your Alpine, there should be a blue wire with a white stripe. This sends a tiny signal (12 volts, 500 ma) to turn your amp on. Connect it to the "remote" wire on your amp. The bigger wires on your amp go to battery (use a decent size wire, like 8 Ga.) with a fuse holder AT THE BATTERY!!!

Ground should be the same size wire as the power, usually no more than 18" in length. Scrape the paint off of somewhere on the floor of the car...do NOT use any existing bolt, etc...make your own ground point.

The RCA's on the back of your deck need to come to the amp. Run them along the drivers side, along with the remote lead.

If your Alpine has no blue/white, use solid blue.

I also can't for the life of me figure out how to turn on the loud feature. It's a 7871 model and I can't find it mentioned in the alpine page under the lists of pdf files.

loud mode sucks...don't use it

but IIRC, you can hold down the volume knob for a couple secs to activate it.

Don't use loud, it isn't worth it. The RCA's are for the amp and then the speakers go to the amp, like said above.

Loud is fine as long as you use it for its intended purpose, which is low volume listening. Turning the volume up is very likely to get you a clipped signal, as the boost is usually +10dB on the lows and highs.

You never said what model Alp you have...some have BBE instead of loudness.
