Bluetooth should be free. It's like fm/am radio.
Do you have to pay "sd" to use sd cards?

I briefly read the Bluetooth licensing and it said you needed to join their little club to be allowed to use their name or sell products using their tech, even if you just buy someone else's module and plug it in to your widget.

Take a look at this. WHO thought "ok, lets go with this"?
You guys like the movie tron? R U in a riced out car show. Why the hell make all
stereos look more or less just like this?
I like the old Alpine and Clarion head units, they were simple, had 1 color scheme and kicked some serious good tunes out with great clarity (usually through a separate amp, in my case)

Nothing juicy just yet. We cannot legally build these without a license and we don't have a spare 2500 laying around.

I'm assuming this bluetooth idea will support aptX and A2DP? Otherwise the digital compression involved is going to kill the sound quality, not to mention that bluetooth is very close to wifi frequencies.

                Safe assumption, for sure.

AptX licensing is a different story, but it will have full 24 bit playback, for those into SQ.

Standard BT sucks ass IMO, have no use for it.

how about using Parrot mki9100 or 9200 as a base HU for its buit-in BT capabilities and offer an equaizer and Amp without going trough an HU ?

Personally an ideal Sound system in my E30 would be an SD and USB slots in the hidden Ashtray, and in the HU location a digital display amber digits on black background with the basic info you need ref your track/artists etc, and a few amber lighted knobs such as Vol/Fad/Bal/Tre/Bas. Couls add an EQ in the glovebox for good measure together with an Ipod connector.

Would be nice to have ipod control too...
just a matter of finding all the components and witre them together via an amp etc...

But maybe just a Parrot Mki9200 on the ceiling with the remote in the ashtray is the idea, it has an SD slot on the screem, and the USB cable culd be extended to the ashtray.
Wire the lo-level outputs to and AMP with Bass remote in the dash....

just trying to get rid of an HU really

                    Yes cool idea. I dig
This would be super cool in a vintage car like an 02 or 1600. You could leave the OEM deck for looks and not have it wired up, and use the BT system to blast your tunes.

Exactly what we were talking about last week!

Get on kickstarter. I'll chip in right away to get this off of the ground.

10/10 100% would buy as long as you can keep the costs somewhat comparable to a nice aftermarket head unit.
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

Even better, have the bluetooth unit hide behind the stock deck and make both of them usable, but with a higher quality amp for the bluetooth feed (aka, not using the shitty stock radio for anything other than AM/FM radio).

                          Absolutely.

We recently integrated an Arcam rBlink into a 44m yacht, which guests onboard can pair with and select their own music, sounds amazing.
