Ordered full factory replacement setup: how does it look?

I've purchased the following for my 86' 325e (prod 11/1985). Nothing is installed as i'm fairly electronics stupid as far as auto installations go and will go to a pro shop.

    Bass Setup:
    Sub: Infinity Reference 10" 1062w
    Amp: P̶o̶w̶e̶r̶ ̶A̶c̶o̶u̶s̶t̶i̶k̶ ̶T̶S̶6̶2̶0̶-̶2̶ ̶ Kenwood Excelon X500-1 Mono Amp
    Box: S̶c̶o̶s̶c̶h̶e̶ ̶S̶E̶1̶0̶R̶ GASE3010 "lukebox" on-order.
Ski bag hole placement w/sub directed into the cabin.

    Speaker Setup:
    Amp: Rockford Fosgate R400-4D Prime
Rear deck (in premium speaker housings):
Rockford Fosgate R1525X2 Prime 5.25-Inch Full Range Coaxial Speaker
Front: Rockford Fosgate Prime R152-S 5.25-Inch Component Speaker System
Tweeters will be fitted to PA window/door housings (if its technically possible)

    Head Unit
    Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X998

I didn't want the biggest and most obnoxious sound system possible, just solid quality that will provide rich and clear sound on long road trips. I think i may have overkilled it but if i have total control of the sound the hope is i wont turn my car into a rattle factory.

    Questions:

    1. How did i do as far as selection goes?

    2. Does this need pro help or can i get this done with minimal frustration in my garage?

Best and thanks for the advice,
    -Ty

Fronts and rears are the same brand and lineup. Im using coaxials in the back and components up front so that i can have tweeters mounted in the front window housings. If you have a better or more practical idea im all ears.

I think he was eluding to responding with a less then approving post. I for one would like to hear a luke setup in person. I read a lot of his posts and like what i see him doing.

I'm not sure if infinity is OEM or not. That said, Infinity is made by Harmon Industries, who produced the harmon kardon sound systems found in later BMWs. i would not be in the least bit surprised if they made the sound systems prior to the E46 but just diddnt slap their logo on the speaker covers.

                        anyone know?

I have had a GASE3010 box and infinity sub since I bought my E30. Honestly, it sounds great, really head and shoulders above the stock premium sound speakers + a new JVC deck or random box sliding around in the trunk. I would highly recommend checking it out and taking a listen.

FYI - you can buy the GAS products in stages. Box / amp / woofer, then an amp rack or PCN. It's pretty cost effective that way.

I gotta say, I really don't appreciate the attitude, but since several others have asked to hear what I have to say about it, I will answer.

The deck is fine, the woofer could be fine, but everything else is plain old dumb. The speakers you bought are absolutely miserable, probably the worst sounding 5.25" components I know of. The co-ax is also miserable, the stock Premiums are far superior in every way: power handling, clarity, detail and ease of install.

To put it bluntly, I would rather listen to a set of 25 year old speaker that came from a junkyard than those miserable Fosgates. I pulled a set of those turds out of an E34, the owner still had the stock drivers, so I was able to show him how much moire technically superior to his shitty Fosgates the stock Premium driver was, and what he said after the install was that "I can't believe those sounded so bad, I had no idea how much better the stock speakers are"

If you are gonna buy cheap shit, the best choice out there is this: http://www.powerbassusa.com/s-5c-525-components

These speakers have far superior crossovers, far superior drivers and actually fit the hole properly. If you can't take the time to find a set of Premiums, these are the best choice, and are about the same price.

Now lets talk about that box...the Infinity claims adequate performance in a sealed box, but hopefully by now you have heard it...miserable, isn't it?

Two minutes with any box modeling software would show that the output falls off horribly at 50Hz and has a huge rise above 120Hz, exactly the worst thing you could do in an E30. That woofer is a horrible match for that box, period.

Not to mention that only the face of that chintzy turd of a box is MDF and that the whole thing is built with hot glue, its an absolutely horrid choice. There are plenty of generic vented boxes out there that would do 10X better for only a little more money.

Oh yeah, using a DVC 4 ohm/coil woofer on a 2 channel...yeah, you said you were going to replace it with a mono amp, but damn...right now you only have about 60 watts available, since you can only get about half of that amps power, since you are temporarily stuck using a 2 channel amp, find a cheap 4 ohm woofer on CL, you can get double the power out of that amp.

Hopefully you would find a less horrid choice for that box, too, so you might actually get some bottom end instead of the muddy mess that you have now.

So yeah, all in all, you would have been far better off had you been willing to ask what to do BEFORE buying that crap....so, best of luck. Buy a box or don't, but hopefully you will learn to do some research and maybe ask a question or two before you rush off and fuck up.

                            Luke
