    Clarion cz702 - not compatible with '91 318?

Need some help. I really like this unit but crutchfield tells me it's not compatible. Those that are using it, did u have to rewire the whole system? I'm not looking for a project, just want to hook up something with Bluetooth function.
    Thanks!

Well, first, don't ask Crutchfield anything about a BMW, period. They are simply not qualified, they tell all the E36 and up guys to buy an antenna adapter that blows up antenna modules, tell people E30s (and down) are "common Ground"...fact is, they talk out their ass.

Short answer is, it will fit and work just fine. Follow the "Amp Bypass" guide in my link if you have a Premium Sound car, don't use any adapters, and read some threads if you get stuck, the info is all there.

OP sent me a PM asking this question since he read that I have this unit in Klaus.

It should come as no surprise to anyone that Luke is correct. +1 on using his excellent write-up(s).

How do you like that deck?

One big question, and I can't remember if I asked you before...but Clarion has historically had a "feature" that pisses me off, that is "auto FM", in which once you eject a CD, it automatically turns on the tuner no matter what you do.

Does this new Clarion still do that?

        (thanks, BTW...you made my day)

            Haha thanks Luke.

I do like the deck. After some of the conversations you and I had and after reading your write-ups, I knew I needed a good quality unit with 3 pairs of 5v pre-outs. My only gripes are that the display text is a few years behind the times which exacerbates the fact that it's difficult to read during the day, and that I wish it was matte black instead of piano black.

Feature and looks wise though, I considered it the best one out there under $200 when I put Klaus' system together.

I don't think I've ever put a CD in it so I'll have to test that feature out for you. I don't drive the car much, so when I do I'm plugging an iPod into the USB input (which I ran to the glove box), and that's the only source I use.

You bet. It's a lot less expensive now than when I bought it. At that price it's practically a no-brainer.
