if your having trouble check this thread out

guided me through. i installed new speakers and ran new wires. but i think you need to run new wires to the deck any ways or to and amp (not the factory amp) for everything to work properly.

I think the general consensus is run a component set in the front with no rear speakers. A good set of front speakers render the rears useless. Most run a ported sub also in the trunk.

Assuming your 318is is the same as my 318ic then you won't have a fader, or a common ground. The oem deck has 4 seperate channels, and you just have 4 sets of speaker wires (2 for each speaker) and yes you can use the stock wiring. I did it for years until I upgraded everything. Personally I would run new wire but as I said it's not necessary. Also don't bother running components unless you're going to use an amp to power them. I suggest some inexpensive Infinity reference coaxils if you're only going to use deck power.

        Thanks guys!

Mike, I don't know if you are aware of this, but most major manufacturers' component speakers are the exact same drivers as the coaxials.

Not similar, mind you, the exact same.

          Just so you know.

Thanks guys. I just got my deck installed and it looks great inside the car. All the buttons are amber, the lcd has blue LEDs :). Better than I had thought.

You're right, I should have said don't spend extra money if you're not going to power them with an amp.
